Inleiding

Description
Introduction
WATER PUMPING STATION from 1926, now functioning as an emergency power station. Low building under flat roof, built under the influence of the Amsterdam and particularly the Hague School. STORAGE BUILDING in the same style, located opposite the main building.
The buildings are situated in the beautiful undulating landscape, together with a few outbuildings, somewhat hidden in a deeper excavated section of the valley.
As a supplement to the main building from 1899, in 1926 a smaller WATER PUMPING STATION in a completely different style was placed, now functioning as an emergency power station. In the same style, opposite the entrance of the main building, a simple STORAGE BUILDING was created in the slope, based on the same interplay of masses and overhangs. An even simpler version stands behind the main building against the slope; this latter one is not under protection.
Description
The WATER PUMPING STATION was designed under the influence of the Amsterdam and Hague School. It is to be assumed that the now whitewashed masonry was originally unpainted. The building has a distinctly overhanging flat roof, as do both lower extensions. One of these is placed in the middle against the rear facade, encompassing a central risalit. The second extension, under an even lower flat roof, is presumably later placed in matching style to the right (when viewed from the front) against the aforementioned extension. The upper part of the FACADES is blind, which emphasises the horizontal character. The entrance is located under a concrete slab as a canopy, at which height a projecting band connects, running around the building. The windows have steel frames with horizontal panes. The gable openings of the short side facades project through the aforementioned band. In the FRONT FACADE a small date stone above the entrance indicates the year of construction 1926. In the LEFT SIDE FACADE a steel door projects through the drip moulding, while in the RIGHT SIDE FACADE a window projects through the drip moulding. The REAR FACADE is largely built in by the two lower extensions. The largest extension has in the middle a door with a light strip above it of glass building blocks and in the left facade a door. The lowest extension has a window in the right, a door in the rear facade.
The STORAGE BUILDING, placed in the slope opposite the main building, is designed in the same vocabulary of forms. It consists of a somewhat higher part on the right, with a double steel door under a far-overhanging concrete canopy and, presumably somewhat younger, a lower part to its left, likewise with a double steel door. Both parts have a straight cantilevered flat roof and stand against a somewhat higher constructed retaining wall. For the right building section this in turn has a somewhat overhanging flat covering.
Valuation
WATER PUMPING STATION and STORAGE BUILDING from 1926.
- The water pumping station is of architectural historical importance as a well-preserved monument of industry and technology, built under the influence of the Amsterdam and Hague School. The storage building in the same style is in itself and as part of the whole likewise of architectural historical importance. The buildings play a role in the complex of buildings for water extraction, which illustrates the development in the course of the 20th century.
- Urbanistically, the buildings are moreover of importance for the image of the complex and, in a broader context, of the valley. They have ensemble value as such.
Cultural-historical description
The site at the Pinkenberg was purchased in May 1897 for water extraction, commissioning took place on 14 February 1899. Apparently the building from circa 1898 no longer met the need, because in 1926 a smaller building in this completely different style was added as a supplement. It now functions as an EMERGENCY POWER STATION. It is situated at the same excavated depth as the oldest building.
