Inleiding
SILO, onderdeel uitmakend van het complex meelfabriek 'De Sleutels'. De silo is gesitueerd aan de oostzijde van het fabrieksterrein met de overhoeks geplaatste witgepleisterde frontzijde direct grenzend aan de gracht. Het op een nagenoeg rechthoekige plattegrond in gewapend beton opgetrokken gebouw heeft door de amovering van een naastgelegen fabrieksgebouw aan de noordzijde een vrijliggende met betonplaten dichtgezette langsgevel. Het gebouw geldt als het eerste betonnen silogebouw in ons land.
Omschrijving
De zeven bouwlagen tellende silo bevat als dakbeëindiging een over de lengte-as uitstrekkende dakopbouw met aan weerszijden een lager lessenaarsdak. De gevel wordt vanaf de derde bouwlaag door lisenen geleed en in vijf naar het midden toe in hoogte opklimmende spaarvelden onderverdeeld. Alleen in de twee rechter spaarvelden komen per bouwlaag twee getoogde vensters voor waarbij de linker met gietijzeren, door roeden gedeelde ramen zijn bezet en rechts onder de zich in de top bevindende hijsbalk, hijsluiken bevat onder een bovenlicht. In de centrale middenas komt in de geveltop nog een kleinere variant van het genoemde raamtype voor. Het samengestelde dak sluit als vorm aan bij de als een soort tuitgevel afgesloten gevel. De tuitgevel bezit ezelsruggen ter plaatse van de evenwijdig aan de daklijnen gestelde delen alsook op de de hoeken flankerende opzetstukken. Begane gronds bevindt zich links een dichtgezette deuropening. Het silogedeelte heeft een cellendek en een grote ruimte onder de trechters, zoals alleen bij de vroege silogebouwen wordt aangetroffen. In het exterieur komt in het rechter spaarveld van de frontzijde in de vijfde bouwlaag een bewaard gebleven graanzuiger voor.

Introduction
SILO, a component forming part of the flour mill complex 'De Sleutels'. The silo is situated on the east side of the factory grounds with the obliquely positioned whitewashed front elevation directly adjoining the canal. The building, constructed on a near-rectangular floor plan in reinforced concrete, has through the removal of an adjacent factory building on the north side a detached side elevation sealed with concrete panels. The building is regarded as the first concrete silo building in our country.
Description
The seven-storey silo has as roof termination a roof superstructure extending over the longitudinal axis with a lower catslide roof on either side. The elevation is articulated from the third storey by pilasters and subdivided into five bays rising in height towards the centre. Only in the two right bays do two arched windows occur per storey, the left filled with cast-iron, glazing-bar divided windows and on the right beneath the hoist beam located in the top, hoist shutters under a fanlight. In the central median axis there is still a smaller variant of the mentioned window type in the roof apex. The composite roof closes in form with the elevation finished as a kind of spout gable. The spout gable possesses ridge tiles at the locations of the parts parallel to the roof lines as well as on the corner flanking superstructure pieces. At ground level on the left is a sealed door opening. The silo section has a cellular ceiling and a large space beneath the hoppers, as found only in the early silo buildings. In the exterior there appears in the right bay of the front elevation in the fifth storey a preserved grain suction pipe.
