The register's description

Inleiding

Introduction

Former RAILWAY BRIDGE, now in use as a cycling bridge over the current drainage canal 's-Hertogenbosch - Drongelen. Part of the no longer operational line Lage Zwaluwe - Den Bosch. This so-called "Half line" formed a train connection between several Langstraat villages.

The bridge was constructed around 1885 and when building the piers, provision was made for a double track. However, only a single track was ever laid across the bridge. The bridge was originally 800 metres long and had a footbridge on the south side. In 1985 it was shortened to 150 metres.

Description

The lattice girder bridge consists of N-girders with straight ends and horizontal top flanges of riveted iron and a foundation of closely spaced beams. The rails have been replaced by a foundation laid on the beams in favour of the cycle path.

The bridge rests on large brick piers with pointed ends. These ends are executed in natural stone. The tops of the piers are fitted with natural stone capping plates.

Valuation

The railway bridge is of general public interest. The bridge has cultural-historical importance as a distinctive expression of social-economic technical and landscape developments, in particular those of the development of the railway connection in the Langstraat. The bridge has architectural-historical importance for the history of building technology. The bridge has ensemble values as an essential component of the Langstraat line.
