Inleiding
De VILLA WELGELEGEN werd in 1905 gebouwd voor H. Oerlemans en C.H. Quirijns. Het pand heeft zowel kenmerken van chaletstijl als jugendstil. In 1954 werd het pand aan de achterzijde uitgebreid met een groentenkas.
Omschrijving
Het vrijwel rechthoekige onderkelderde tweelaagse gebouw heeft een samengesteld dak met rode tuile-du-nordpannen. De gevels zijn opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen, grotendeels voorzien van een witte pleisterlaag. De baksteen is zichtbaar gelaten in de plint, als speklagen en als rollaag of strek boven de vensters. De vensterdorpels zijn van hardsteen.
De voorgevel bestaat uit een risaliet met topgevel en zadeldak. Op de begane grond bevindt zich een zesdelig samengesteld kozijn met kleine roedenverdeling in de bovenlichten, geplaatst onder een segmentboog. Dit raam heeft evenals het etageraam bijpassende getoogde luiken. Het raam op de verdieping bestaat uit twee gekoppelde schuifvensters met kleine roeden in de bovenlichten. Boven dit raam is de naam; "Welgelegen" aangebracht. In de topgevel een schuifvenster met halve luiken. Onder het dak met breed overstek is een gedeeltelijke houten betimmering. Rechts van de risaliet is een éénlaagse serre onder plat dak. De bovenlichten zijn voorzien van glas-in-lood. De daklijst bestaat uit een reeks van kleine gezaagde plankjes.
Links van de risaliet een eenlaagse aanbouw onder schilddak. Hierin een schuifvensters met twaalfruits bovenlicht en luiken. Om de hoek, de linkerzijgevel, bevindt zich hier de hoofdingang. Dit is een paneeldeur met kussens en snijwerk, onder een terugspringend gedeelte van het dak. Voorts bevinden zich hier nog een andere paneeldeur en diverse schuifvensters met kleine roeden in de bovenlichten.
De rechterzijgevel laat in de serre een aparte entree zien, op de etage er boven een schuifvenster. Hiernaast een samengesteld vooruitspringend geveldeel, weer met uitkragend overstek bij de topgevel met zadeldak. Zowel in het voorste gedeelte als in de afgeschuinde hoeken bevinden zich schuifvensters met sierroedenverdeling. Het zolderraam in de topgevel is voorzien van halve luiken.
In de tuin staan twee grote kastanjebomen.
Waardering
De villa is van algemeen belang. Het pand is van cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling waarbij in de onmiddellijke nabijheid van het eigen bedrijf een directievilla wordt geplaatst.
Architectuurhistorisch is het belangrijk vanwege de kwaliteit van de toegepaste stijlelementen.
