Inleiding
HERENHUIS uit circa 1870 in eclectische stijl met uitbreidingen respectievelijk aan de zuid- of rechterkant met een DIENSTWONING uit de negentiende eeuw en aan de noord- of linkerkant met een KANTOOR uit de vroege twintigste eeuw.
Omschrijving
Het herenhuis heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond. Het bestaat uit twee bouwlagen met een zolderverdieping gedekt door een zadeldak voorzien van grijze Oudhollandse pannen. De symmetrische voorgevel is vijf traveeën breed. De gevel heeft een middenrisaliet met rechts een hoekpilaster. De risaliet bevat een monumentale ingangspartij met stuclijsten onder een kroonlijst en bewerkt fries gedragen door voluutvormige consoles. Teakhouten voordeur in Art-Deco stijl met bovenlicht. Op de tweede bouwlaag bevindt zich een schuifvenster voorzien van geprofileerde stuclijsten met afgeronde bovenhoeken bekroond door een kuif. De andere traveeën hebben zowel op de begane grond als op de verdieping overeenkomstige vensters met eenzelfde afwerking. Alle op een na hebben bovenlichten, voorzien van glas-in-lood. De vensters op de begane grond hebben bovendien houten rolluiken. De zijgevels, uitgevoerd als tuitgevel, hebben een ezelsrug als afdekking. Op de rechterzijgevel een achthoekige schoorsteen. Aan de achterkant heeft het huis een serre onder plat dak. De detaillering van vensters en deuren is eenvoudig uitgevoerd.
Het opgaande werk bestaat uit schoonmetselwerk van rode handgevormde baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband. De voorgevel heeft bovendien een bewerkte hardstenen plint, cordonlijst en fries met kroonlijst en acht voluutvormige stenen consoles. De dienstwoning bestaat uit één travee met twee bouwlagen, gelegen onder een plat dak. De onderste bouwlaag komt qua hoogte overeen met die van het woonhuis, de bovenste is echter lager. De woning heeft een eigen ingang vanaf de straat en op de tweede bouwlaag een schuifvenster. Beide hebben dezelfde geprofileerde stuclijsten als de vensters van het woonhuis. De voordeur met bovenlicht komt met het woonhuis overeen. Het opgaande werk bestaat uit schoonmetselwerk van rood/paarse handgevormde baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband. De voorgevel heeft bovendien een bewerkte hardstenen plint, cordonlijst en een ook in de zijgevel lopende fries met kroonlijst en twee stenen voluutvormige consoles boven de hoekpilasters.
Het kantoor bestaat uit één travee, die risaleert in de voorgevel. Het heeft twee bouwlagen met een zolderverdieping en zadeldak overeenkomstig het woonhuis. Op de onderste bouwlaag bevindt zich de eigen ingang van het kantoor in een brede muuropening. Op de tweede bouwlaag een schuifvenster. Beide hebben dezelfde geprofileerde stuclijsten als de vensters van het woonhuis. De ingangspui, bevat één teakhouten voordeur in Art-Deco stijl. De oorspronkelijke gesloten zijvleugeldeuren zijn vervangen door glas. Het opgaande werk bestaat uit schoonmetselwerk van rode handgevormde baksteen gemetseld in staand verband. De voorgevel heeft bovendien een hardstenen plint, cordonlijst en fries met kroonlijst en vier stenen voluutvormige consoles. Het interieur van woonhuis en dienstwoning is grotendeels verloren gegaan, maar het bevat onder meer nog vouwblinden van de benedenvensters en de Art-Deco betimmeringen aan deuren en lambrizering van gang, hal en trappenhuis. En in de rechtervoorkamer het zwaar bewerkte stucplafond met lijst en ornamentwerk en restanten van een eikenhouten lambrizering met snijwerk. De indeling van het kantoor bestaat uit een kleine vestibule aan de straat met twee achter elkaar gelegen kantoren, waarvan de grootste in het midden ligt. Het grootste kantoor heeft in het plafond een lichtkap, twee schijnlichtkappen en bewerkte stucwanden met onder andere schijnbogen. Het kleine kantoor heeft een stucplafond in Art Nouveau en een onderliggende kelder met kluis. Tussen beide kantoren schuifdeuren met gezandstraald glas.
Waardering
Het herenhuis met kantoor is van algemeen belang. Het pand heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de bouw van rijk gedetailleerde fabrikantenwoningen en kantoren binnen de bestaande stedelijke structuur en is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het woonhuis. Architectuurhistorisch is het van belang vanwege de stijl en de detaillering.
