Omschrijving

Description
Introduction
RESIDENCE built in 1861 in Eclectic style. It consists of a front house at the street and a small rear house with storage for firewood and coal. Both building parts have a rectangular ground plan and make an angle of approximately 100 degrees with respect to each other.
Description
The front house has two storeys with an attic storey covered by a gabled roof between spout gables. The front and rear facades are each five bays wide. The front facade is symmetrical in layout. It has a central risalit and corner pilasters. The risalit contains the front door of the house consisting of a white-painted teak wooden door with fanlight between pilasters. Above it on the second storey is a balcony with double access doors and arched fanlight. The balcony consists of a hard stone slab, which is supported by volute-shaped stone consoles. It has a cast-iron balustrade. Beside the risalit there are on either side two sash windows with a T-shaped arrangement. The windows of the first storey are closed straight at the top and those of the second are arched. All have a hard stone drip moulding. In the rear facade back sash windows. The living room has in place of the windows double garden doors. In the side gables on the attic storey are four-pane sash windows. The masonry of the house consists of red hand-formed brick (Ijssel format), laid in English bond. The front facade is entirely provided with stucco and finished with white paint. The facade is alternated by a worked cornice line with dentil moulding, worked corner pilasters and profiled stucco lines around the windows with cupped mouldings. The basement has a hard stone edge next to the window drip mouldings and a hard stone plinth. At the top the facade is closed off by a worked frieze with cornice. In the frieze there are twenty stone volute-shaped consoles, which support the moulding. The other gables are covered with an ochre-coloured mortar wash. The rear house has one storey. Both roofs are furnished with grey newly improved Dutch tiles. In the corner against the front and rear house there is, at the street side, a storage for firewood and coal, covered by a lean-to roof furnished with Old Dutch tiles.
The interiors of front and rear house are largely authentic. The front house has worked stucco ceilings in hallway and rooms with rosettes and mouldings. A wooden staircase with string board, cupshaped pieces, railing wrongs and turned balusters. Doors with multiple panels, mouldings and turned legs with closing handle. Worked architraves around the casements. In four places in the house there are richly worked marble chimneypieces in different designs. In the bathroom a cast-iron bath tub with feet. Tiled kitchen and hallway floor in diagonal work, in the kitchen with the colours yellow and black and in the hallway with multi-coloured composite patterns. Under the kitchen an arched cellar with niches. The rear house contains a back kitchen with in it a hard stone sink with double pump and copper taps, a heating place with wash copper and smoke shaft.
Valuation
The mansion is of general importance. It has cultural-historical importance as a specimen of socio-economic development, in particular the establishment of residences within the existing urban fabric. It has architectural-historical importance as an example of the application of Eclectic motifs for the representation of the well-to-do bourgeoisie and has aesthetic qualities. It has ensemble values as part of the intact streetscape of the Goirkestraat. The object is furthermore important because of the integrity of its exterior and interior and is as such rare.
