Inleiding
FAMILIEGRAF de Beer uit 1898 in Neo-Gotische stijl, naar ontwerp van de Tilburgse architect A. de Beer, uitgevoerd door steenhouwer/beeldhouwer L. Petit (signering rechterpaal onder). Het graf, genummerd CD/19, is gemaakt voor: Johannes de Beer (*30-5-1815 +10-8-1899), timmerman op de Veldhoven en Aldegonda Kleijberg (*28-2-1812 +29-5-1893) en o.a. voor hun zoon Adriaan de Beer (*23-5-1844 +12-4-1898).
Adriaan is architect van o.a. de volgende Tilburgse gebouwen: St. Josephgesticht (1877), Clarissenklooster (1890) aan de Lange Nieuwstraat, Missiehuis M.S.C. (1890) aan de Bredaseweg, Trappistenabdij (1891) aan de Koningshoeven en de kerk van de Hasselt (1898) aan de Hasseltstraat.
Omschrijving
Het grafmonument bestaat uit een hardstenen toren, die gedragen wordt door een vierkante sokkel, met op de hoeken zuiltjes, die op hun beurt bogen dragen. In de hierdoor ontstane nissen bevinden zich reliëfs: - kruis, anker en hart - lauwerkrans met Christusmonogram - evangelieboek met alfa- en omegatekens - duif met tak. De toren heeft aan de hoeken eveneens zuilen en wordt naar boven toe aan alle vier zijden spitsvormig afgesloten. Langs de bovenrand hogels en kruisbloemen. De toren wordt bekroond door een pinakel met kruis. De grafteksten, in gotisch kapitaal, bevinden zich tussen de zuilen van de toren: "Zalig de dooden die in den heer sterven"; "Van nu aan reeds zegt de geest zullen zij rusten van hunnen arbeid en hunne werken volgen hen (openb. XIV.13)" en "Zij rusten in vrede" (2x). Rondom het monument, op een hardstenen bordes, staan tien paaltjes, met elkaar verbonden door ijzeren kettingen met schakels en doornmotief.
Waardering
Het object is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de ontwikkeling van het katholicisme in de negentiende eeuw, in het bijzonder de stichting van kerken ter plaatse van oudere schuurkerken. Het heeft architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de herinnering aan de architectenfamilie De Beer. Description
The grave monument consists of a sandstone tower, which is supported by a square base, with small columns at the corners, which in turn carry arches. In the niches created by this there are reliefs: - cross, anchor and heart - laurel wreath with Christogram - gospel book with alpha and omega signs - dove with branch. The tower likewise has columns at the corners and is terminated towards the top on all four sides in pointed fashion. Along the upper edge gargoyles and cross flowers. The tower is crowned by a pinnacle with cross. The grave inscriptions, in Gothic capitals, are located between the columns of the tower: "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord"; "From now on the Spirit says they shall rest from their labour and their works follow them (Rev. XIV.13)" and "They rest in peace" (2x). Around the monument, on a sandstone platform, stand ten bollards, connected to one another by iron chains with links and thorn motif.
Valuation
