Description
Introduction.
RESIDENTIAL HOUSE from the second quarter of the twentieth century, built in a New-Historicist style for wine merchant Kerstens. Characteristic of this is the use of materials (unfinished varnished wood, roof tiles, leaded glass, restrained use of natural stone) and the application of timber-framing.
Description.
The brick house consists of a two-storey building mass on a rectangular floor plan under a hipped roof. To the right of the house is a single-storey building mass on rectangular floor plan in line with the house, under a half hipped roof, built against the main mass. The right part is taken up by a garage, between garage and house is a wide passageway. The roofs are covered with roof tiles. The plinth is executed in red brick, the remaining parts of the facades are yellow. The right corner of the front of the house is provided with a round, tower-shaped projection under a pointed roof. The centre of the front facade is crowned by a gable with saddle roof. On the ground floor of the tower is located the entrance. This entrance consists of a wooden door in worked natural stone framing with Tudor arch. On the closing stone a relief with representation of a pineapple is applied. The front facade has a high hipped roof, in the middle provided with a bay window running over ground floor and first floor. The gable above it extends slightly at the sides. Bay window and gable are executed in timber-framing. On the ground floor the bay window is provided with a large window with smaller fanlights with leaded glass. Between the windows columns are placed. On the first floor the window consists of a row of connected leaded glass windows. On either side of the bay window similar windows are placed. The roof is provided with a substantial overhang and continues over both side facades to a lower level. The right side facade has one storey, the facade is largely hidden from view by the passageway. In front of the entrance section (tower) a half-round window with leaded glass is placed. Behind the tower, in the passageway windows are placed, partly provided with shutters. The garage has two doors with rounded corners. In the doors diamond-shaped windows. The rear facade has a door and a large kitchen window in a single-storey projecting section with balcony. Fanlights and side lights are filled with leaded glass. The first floor above it is parallel to the rest of the rear facade. The roof has a large overhang over the balcony. A lower extension, next to the projecting section has a lean-to roof. The windows are connected in a row and always filled with leaded glass. To the right of it, on the ground floor terrace doors. All windows with wooden, unfinished varnished frames. The windows are filled with leaded glass. In the roof plane on the rear side narrow horizontal roof dormers are placed. The detached residential house is surrounded by a large garden. In the interior the layout is largely still in its original state. The entrance leads to a hall in the round "little tower". From there a corridor runs parallel to the street. On the front side are rooms, on the back side is among others a kitchen placed.
Valuation.
The property is of general importance, it is of cultural-historical importance as an expression of a socio-economic development, namely the construction of villas for among others manufacturers along the green exit roads and is also of importance for the typological development of the villa. It has architectural-historical value because of the style. It is of importance because of its completeness.
