Inleiding
Het POORTGEBOUW bij het klooster Onze Lieve Vrouwe van Koningsoord werd van 1933-'37 in sobere Neo-Gotische stijl gebouwd naar plannen van architect J. van Dijk. Het klooster is vanuit Chimay gesticht voor de zusters Trappistinnen en werd grotendeels betaald door het eveneens in Berkel-Enschot gesitueerde trappistenklooster Koningshoeven.
Omschrijving
De poort bestaat uit een binnen- en een buitenpoort, gescheiden door een door muren begeleide binnenstraat. De buitenpoort bestaat uit twee bakstenen pijlers met kunststenen afdeklijsten. In elke pijler een spitsboogvormige beeldnis. De pijlers worden bekroond door smeedijzeren lantaarns. De straat naar de binnenpoort wordt begeleid door gemetselde muren, voorzien van brede spitsboogvormige nissen en bekroond door keramische afdeklijsten, bestaande uit tegels. De binnenpoort bestaat uit een in plattegrond rechthoekig gebouw, met centraal een doorgang, geflankeerd door twee kamers, elk met een spitsboogvenster met bakstenen vorkharnas aan de straatzijde. In de spitsboogvormige doorrijopening aan elke zijde een deur naar de belendende ruimten. In de topgevel boven de doorrijopening een spitsboogvormige beeldnis. De gevels van het gebouw zijn aan de straatzijde bekroond door een bakstenen lijst met kanteel-motief. Het zadeldak achter de topgevel is gedekt met een eternitlei. Achter de gekanteelde borstwering platte daken.
Waardering
Het poortgebouw is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarden als uitdrukking van een culturele en geestelijke ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van nieuwe kloostervestigingen in de negentiende en twintigste eeuw, het is van belang als uitdrukking van de typologische ontwikkeling van het contemplatieve vrouwenklooster. The GATEHOUSE at the convent Onze Lieve Vrouwe van Koningsoord was built from 1933-'37 in sober Neo-Gothic style according to designs by architect J. van Dijk. The street to the inner gate is bordered by mortared walls, provided with broad pointed-arch-shaped niches and crowned by ceramic coping strips, consisting of tiles. The inner gate consists of a building rectangular in plan, with centrally a passage, flanked by two rooms, each with a pointed-arch window with brick forked finials on the street side. In the pointed-arch-shaped carriage opening on each side a door to the adjoining spaces. In the gable elevation above the carriage opening a pointed-arch-shaped image niche. The elevations of the building are crowned on the street side by a brick cornice with crenelation motif. The gabled roof behind the gable elevation is covered with an eternit slate. Behind the crenellated parapet flat roofs.
