Inleiding
Het BEZINKBASSIN, dat uit 1936 dateert, is gelegen aan de hoofdverbindingsas van het terrein. Dit bassin dient om het chemisch gebonden en samengevlokte vuil te laten neerslaan. Het wordt anno 1998 nog gebruikt bij overmatige regenval.
Omschrijving
Het bezinkbassin bestaat uit een grote ronde bak met een diameter van 37,50 m, waarvan de wanden zijn opgetrokken uit beton. De betonnen vloer van het bassin loopt naar het midden toe af. Het gat in het midden dient voor de slibafvoer. Daartoe is het bassin voorzien van een mechanische slibruimer van het type Dorr-Oliver (die in 1988 is gereconstrueerd volgens het oorspronkelijke model). Deze bestaat uit een twee-armige stalen constructie met schrapers, die over de bodem beweegt en zo het slib naar het midden werkt. De stalen waterinvoer steekt uit het midden van het bassin omhoog. Een stalen loopbrug (eveneens in 1988 naar oorspronkelijk model gereconstrueerd) verbindt de rand van het bassin met het centrum.
