Inleiding
Internaat, in gebruik als steunpunt voor bejaarden. Aan de achterzijde is daarvoor in 1997 een nieuwe aanbouw gerealiseerd. Het gebouw is uitgevoerd in een sobere bouwtrant, licht beïnvloed door de Neo-Renaissance. Gebouwd in 1894.
Omschrijving
Het is een bakstenen gebouw onder een mansardedak, gedekt met leien. Het internaat heeft de voorgevel schuin ten opzichte van de straat. De rechterzijgevel wijkt uit. De voorgevel is zes traveeën breed en heeft een natuurstenen plint. De gevel is voorzien van zes kruiskozijnen met schuiframen met kleine roedenverdeling. De ramen hebben hardstenen vensterbanken. De gevel is voorzien van een tandlijst en gootlijst. De oude achtermuur is thans inpandig maar in oude vorm bewaard gebleven. De ramen hebben dezelfde vormgeving als voor.
In het interieur zijn veel ruimtes doorgebroken. De inrichting is gemoderniseerd. Er zijn verbindingen aangebracht met buiten het internaat gebouwde panden. De oorspronkelijke loopbrug tussen fratershuis en internaat is verdwenen.
Waardering
Het voormalige internaat is van algemeen belang als onderdeel van een ensemble met cultuurhistorische waarden. Het geheel is van cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van de sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, namelijk de zorg voor onderwijs en caritas door katholieke congregaties en is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het kleinschalige congregatieklooster. Het is een weergave van de belangrijke rol die de geestelijkheid aan het begin van deze eeuw gespeeld heeft, met name in het zuiden van Nederland.
