Omschrijving

Description
Introduction
Roman Catholic RECTORY from 1913 of the church of O.L.Vr. Moeder van Goede Raad displays in its forms a Reorientation towards traditional building methods. Design by architect Jan van der Valk (*1873 Delfshaven +1961 Tilburg).
Description
The rectory consists of two storeys under composite hipped roofs with overhang. The floor plan is trapezoidal, wide at the street and narrow at the rear. The overall structure consists of three masses: entrance, residential and service sections. The entrance is located in the middle section of the front facade provided with a round-arched portico with quatrefoil in fanlight on corner pilaster/buttress with above it a marble mosaic of the church's patroness. The oak carved front door with round transom has two wrought-iron open grilles. The service section in the right part of the rectory has its own service entrance in the right side facade. The rectory has wooden windows, most with a division in height or width. In front facade they have a fixed light with a six-pane glazing bars in the fanlight. The windows next to the entrance section are separated in pairs by a mortared muntin. The left side facade contains five bull's-eye windows. At the rear an adjoining conservatory with balcony and on the ground floor a three-sided bay window. The masonry consists like the church of discoloured red/purple hand-made bricks from the "Udenhout" brick factory. The whole is laid in Flemish bond. In the plinth a roll course, decorative brickwork in cock-combs and string course and a projecting edge under the roof overhang. Below the windows brick sill stones. The roof is covered with blue Roman tiles. In the interior the three-part division is also present; in the middle section is the entrance with hall and consultation room, then in the left wing the rectory and on the right the service section. The sections have their own staircases. The rectory staircase is generously executed and located centrally in the house. All doors open onto it. Staircase with oak treads and carved newel post. In it exposed brickwork alternated by whitewashed plasterwork. Wainscot with Art Nouveau tile border and hard stone plinth. Floor of corridor and hall red/black tiled work. Ceilings with primary and secondary beams. The doors contain six panels. In the room on the ground floor to the left of the front door transoms with stained glass leaded lights from 1933 by Alex Asperslagh. Valuation.
The rectory is of general importance. It has cultural-historical significance as a particular expression of the development of Catholicism in the south and is also of importance for the typological development of the rectory. In the oeuvre of Tilburg architect Jan van der Valk it holds a leading place. It has ensemble values because of its particular significance through its location next to the church, closely connected with the development/expansion of the Broekhoven neighbourhood.
