Inleiding.
Het GRAFMONUMENT werd in 1874 op de katholieke begraafpaats aan de Bredaseweg opgericht voor de kinderen Louis (+1874) en Gerard (+1914) Mutsaers. Het monument werd vervaardigd door L. Petit te Tilburg. De relatie tussen de opschriften, de gegeven sterfdata en de stijl, neo-classicistisch, van de beeldengroep doen vermoeden dat het beeld niet meer in de oorspronkelijke opstelling op de sokkel staat maar is gedraaid.
Omschrijving.
Grafmonument bestaande uit een beeldengroep voorstellende een levensgrote engel(-bewaarder) met kind, uitgevoerd in zandsteen, staande op een smalle, in hardsteen vervaardigde trapeziumvormige sokkel. De sokkel, op bakstenen fundament, heeft een geprofileerde basis en dekplaat. Onder de dekplaat een acanthusreliëf en een lijst met gehakte rozetten. De sokkel is voorzien van geprofileerde spaarvelden met aan de voorzijde een rouwkrans aan linten waaronder het opschrift 'Vlieg op naar 't zoet geneugt / der eindelooze vreugd / bij de engelen daarboven / die hunnen schepper loven'. Op de basis 'Gerard Mutsaers 1 april 1914'. Op de achterzijde in het spaarveld het opschrift 'Hier rust onze lieveling / Louis Mutsaers / 2 mei 1874'. Hieronder, op de sokkel, de signatuur 'L. Petit'. Op de sokkel een op een basement staande engel met oprijzende gespreide vleugels, gekleed in een lange mantel. De linkerhand bevindt zich ter hoogte van de schouder van het kind, de rechterhand is opgeheven. De engel kijkt neer op het voor hem staande kind dat zijn gevouwen handen links van het opgeheven gezicht heeft. Het kind is gekleed in een korte tunica.
Waardering.
Het monument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de katholieke grafcultuur en tevens vanwege de typologie, als een in zandsteen uitgevoerde levensgrote engelbewaarder met kind op een hoge, geprofileerde sokkel. Het object is ook van belang vanwege de gaafheid. Bovendien is het object van belang als onderdeel van een groter geheel dat cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedenbouwkundig van belang is als eerste katholieke begraafplaats van Tilburg.

Grave monument consisting of a sculptural group depicting a life-size guardian angel with child, executed in sandstone, standing on a narrow trapezoidal base made of hardstone. The base, on a brick foundation, has a moulded base and coping. Beneath the coping an acanthus relief and a list with chiselled rosettes. The base is provided with moulded spandrels with on the front a mourning wreath on ribbons beneath which the inscription 'Fly up to the sweet joy / of endless gladness / among the angels above / who praise their creator'. On the base 'Gerard Mutsaers 1 april 1914'. On the reverse in the spandrel the inscription 'Here rests our darling / Louis Mutsaers / 2 mei 1874'. Below this, on the base, the signature 'L. Petit'. On the base an angel standing on a plinth with rising spread wings, dressed in a long mantle. The left hand is at the height of the child's shoulder, the right hand is raised. The angel looks down at the child standing before him who has his folded hands to the left of his raised face. The child is dressed in a short tunic.
