Inleiding.
Omstreeks 1926 werd op de katholieke begraafplaats aan de Bredaseweg het GRAFMONUMENT voor Bernardus Pessers en zijn echtgenote Johanna Daniëls geplaatst. Bernardus Pessers was wolwasser en de zoon van Nicolaas Pessers die in 1855 in Tilburg de firma N. Pessers & Zonen oprichtte. Het grafmonument werd uitgevoerd door de firma L. Petit uit Tilburg naar een ontwerp van Theo van Delft. Theo van Delft (1883-1967) was een in Tilburg werkzame beeldhouwer die onder andere een korte opleiding genoot van A. Falise. Na 1920 legde hij zich vooral toe op schilderen.
Omschrijving.
Grafmonument bestaande uit een opstand met bronzen figuur. Het geheel in zwart graniet uitgevoerde grafmonument bestaat uit een opstand in drie geledingen met een risaliserend middendeel. Op de onderste geleding in reliëf de tekst 'Hier rust / Bernardus Vincentius / Pessers / Geboren te Tilburg 5 april 1865 / aldaar overleden 24 januari 1926 / Johanna Maria / Daniëls geboren te Tilburg 20 oct. 1865 / aldaar overleden 21 april 1945'. Op de tweede geleding een bronzen reliëf, voorstellende een zittende vrouwenfiguur die reikt naar een kruis dat tegen de derde geleding is aangebracht. Het bronzen reliëf is in de zoom van het gewaad gesigneerd 'Th v Delft'. Het graf is omkaderd door een zwart granieten band met knielbankje, opgevuld met lichtgrijze, ruwe stenen platen. Het grafmonument is rechts op de sokkel gesigneerd 'Fa. L. Petit'.
Waardering.
Het monument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de katholieke grafcultuur. Het is tevens van belang vanwege de bijzondere typologie en de innovatieve waarde. Bovendien is er sprake van een uniek ontwerp, vervaardigd door Theo van Delft dat in brons werd uitgevoerd. On the second storey a bronze relief, depicting a seated female figure reaching towards a cross which is placed against the third storey. The bronze relief is signed in the hem of the drapery 'Th v Delft'. The grave is framed by a black granite band with kneeling bench, filled with light grey rough stone slabs. The grave monument is signed on the right on the plinth 'Fa. L. Petit'.
