On the Catholic cemetery at Bredaseweg stands the Neo-Gothic GRAVE CHAPEL of the Bogaers family. The chapel was built around 1901. The maker is L. Petit.

Description.

Neogothic grave chapel constructed entirely of hardstone on rectangular basis under a gabled roof. The grave chapel has in the pediment at the front an entrance with clamped door under a moulded pointed arch, resting on columns of which the bases and foliate capitals are executed in white marble. Above the entrance a round window with trefoil tracery. Above this, parallel to the round window, in an arch the inscription 'To our dear parents'. The front facade is flanked by pinnacles in two storeys, the second placed diagonally. On the shafts of the pinnacles white marble casements. The pinnacles are crowned by a spire and finial with crockets. On the top line of the front facade a hardstone saddle back whereon crockets. On the top a white marble cross on cross-flower, the whole on a hardstone base. In the side facades each a pointed arch window with ogive and trefoil tracery. The rear facade has on the corners narrow columns reaching to the roof eaves. The columns have white marble bases and foliate capitals. In the top of the rear facade a window in the form of a cross with, except at the foot, cross arms ending in trefoil. The rear facade is crowned by a marble cross-flower on hardstone base. The chapel has a gabled roof with slightly overhanging, moulded hardstone roof eaves. On the rear side a slight overhang. The roof is covered with bitumen and is crowned by a hardstone moulded ridge. The chapel has a hardstone plinth. In the interior white marble plates with the names of the deceased (these are scarcely legible through the windows), an altar table on consoles and a wooden columbarium. To the front and right side of the chapel a low box hedge with before the entrance two moulded hardstone bollards with bronze hooks for a (disappeared) chain. The windows in the side facades have leaded glass infilling, dating from c. 1901 and 1975-1980. In the window in the left side facade (c. 1901) the text 'Gratia memoria plena / nostri Guilielmi Bogaers / qui in urbe Bruxellis / christi formam hominis / caelestis expectat / et matris nostrae / Theodora Smit / festum resurrectionis / expectans in urbe / Hagae Comitis'. Above the text the arms of Bogaers and Smit under helmet mark. Below the text the arms of Pollet and Brantjes, entirely below the arms of Van Dooren, Van der Hulst, Ypma and Truffino. In the window in the right side facade a woman sitting on an animal (phoenix?), with text 'Laeta memoria / Antoinettae / in vita mea / sol / serotinus'. Below the woman a rose and tulip and two unknown arms.

The monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of social and spiritual development, particularly of Catholic grave culture. The object is of importance by reason of its type and the integrity of the entirely hardstone-executed neogothic grave chapel. The grave chapel is moreover of importance as part of a larger whole that is of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban-planning importance as the first Catholic cemetery of Tilburg.
