Inleiding.
Op de rooms-katholieke begraafplaats aan de Bredaseweg staat het GRAFMONUMENT van de familie Pollet. Het monument werd vervaardigd in het atelier van A.P. Schotel Gzn. te Dordrecht omstreeks 1895.
Omschrijving.
Geheel in witmarmer vervaardigd pompeus grafmonument bestaande uit een rotspartij met kruis op hardstenen sokkel. Op de vierkante sokkel met gewelfde bovenzijde het opschrift 'Tot aandenken aan onzen geliefden Broeder en Zuster / Bernardus Alphonsus Franciscus Pollet / geb. 26 november 1842, overl. 29 augustus 1895 / en / Theresia Maria Barbara Pollet / geb. 9 september 1845, overl. 14 november 1895'. Op de sokkel een gebeeldhouwde rotspartij met aan de voorzijde een eveneens in steen gebeeldhouwde brief met opschrift 'Zalig zij die / geroepen zijn / tot de bruiloft / van het Lam! / Apoc. XIX:9'. Tussen de rotsblokken enkele planten en bloemen waaronder klimop en leliën. De rotspartij wordt bekroond door een boomkruis, omhangen met een bloemenkrans waarin onder andere rozen en leliën. Op de sokkel rechtsonder de signatuur 'A.P. Schotel Gzn / Dordrecht'.
Waardering.
Het monument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de katholieke grafcultuur. Het object is tevens van belang vanwege de typologie als een bijzonder rijke en omvangrijke uitvoering van een dergelijk grafmonument. Bovendien is het van belang als onderdeel van een groter geheel dat cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedenbouwkundig van belang is als de eerste katholieke begraafplaats te Tilburg.

A pompous grave monument made entirely in white marble consisting of a rock arrangement with cross on a hardstone plinth. On the square plinth with vaulted top the inscription 'In memory of our beloved Brother and Sister / Bernardus Alphonsus Franciscus Pollet / born 26 November 1842, died 29 August 1895 / and / Theresia Maria Barbara Pollet / born 9 September 1845, died 14 November 1895'. On the plinth a sculpted rock arrangement with on the front a letter likewise sculpted in stone bearing the inscription 'Blessed are those / called / to the wedding feast / of the Lamb! / Apoc. XIX:9'. Between the rock blocks some plants and flowers including ivy and lilies. The rock arrangement is crowned by a timber cross, hung with a wreath of flowers including among others roses and lilies. On the plinth lower right the signature 'A.P. Schotel Gzn / Dordrecht'.
Valuation.
The monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of social and spiritual development, particularly of Catholic grave culture. The object is furthermore of importance by reason of its type as a particularly rich and extensive execution of such a grave monument. Moreover it is of importance as part of a larger whole that is of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban-planning importance as the first Catholic cemetery at Tilburg.
