Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Wooden BOATHOUSE from 1915, as part of the country estate Nijenrode.
The country estate has its origin in a 13th century castle. Important extensions and restorations took place notably in the 17th century under Johan I Ortt, who also commissioned the layout of a formal garden. From 1907 the country estate was owned by Amsterdam coffee merchant Michiel Onnes. He had the castle restored under the direction of architect E.G. Wentinck to a 17th century situation and added several outbuildings. Garden architects L.A. Springer and H. Copijn were responsible for the layout transformed between 1912-1915 into a landscape garden with a mixed character. Currently Nijenrode University for Business Administration is housed in the castle and with the purchase of land in the direction of the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal the territory of the country estate has been enlarged once more.
Description
The wooden boathouse is built parallel to the Straatweg on piles in the Vecht. It stands diagonally opposite the southern entrance with carriage gates of the park. The construction consists of wooden roof trusses with curved corbels, of which the truss members form the wooden piles on which the boathouse is founded. The building of one storey is erected from a rectangular ground plan and provided with a reed-thatched gabled roof. The roof has an overhang all around and in the middle of both hipped ends a small dormer roof. The long sides consist of vertical wooden elements with draught strips. The end gables contain vertically arranged plank elements spaced apart. The end gables and small dormer roofs are provided with decoratively finished wind vanes. The straight-closing single and coupled windows contain six-paned casement windows. In the top gables are circular windows with four-paned frames.
The symmetrical, five-bay long sides are identical. In the middle bay on the south-west side, at the location of the small dormer roof, is the entrance with door and to the left and right a window. On either side of this are two bays each with a coupled window.
The gable ends are blind. The north-west gable contains a wide outward-opening door.
Valuation
The building is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural historical value as a well-preserved example of a wooden boathouse from 1915, as well as a functional component of the country estate Nijenrode. The boathouse has situational value because of its visually defining location on the bank of the Vecht as well as because of the visual and spatial-functional relationship with the other components of the complex.
