DIENSTWONING, als onderdeel van de buitenplaats Nijenrode.
De buitenplaats heeft zijn oorsprong in een 13de eeuws kasteel. Belangrijke uitbreidingen en restauraties hebben zich onder meer in de 17de eeuw voorgedaan onder Johan I Ortt, die ook de opdracht gaf voor de aanleg van een formele tuin. Vanaf 1907 was de buitenplaats in het bezit van de Amsterdamse koffiehandelaar Michiel Onnes. Hij liet het kasteel onder leiding van architect E.G. Wentinck herstellen naar een 17de eeuwse situatie en voegde enkele bijgebouwen toe. De tuinarchitecten L.A. Springer en H. Copijn waren verantwoordelijk voor de tussen 1912-1915 tot Landschappelijke tuin omgevormde aanleg met een gemengd karakter. Thans zetelt Nijenrode Universiteit voor Bedrijfskunde in het kasteel en is met de aankoop van grond in de richting van het Amsterdam Rijnkanaal het grondgebied van de buitenplaats opnieuw vergroot.
Het interieur is onder meer in 1985 in indeling en detaillering ingrijpend gewijzigd. Toen is de woning intern verbouwd onder leiding van architect L. de Jonge Architectenbureau te Rotterdam.
Omschrijving
De dienstwoning uit 1911/12 in de stijl van de Neo-Hollandse Renaissance bevindt zich in het zuiden van het park, nabij de zuidelijke entree. Het staat met de nokrichting haaks op de Straatweg. Het deels onderkelderde woonhuis van één bouwlaag is opgetrokken in baksteen vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond. Het zadeldak is gedekt met gesmoorde Hollandse pannen. De kopse gevels zijn uitgevoerd als trapgevels met gemetselde trappen met ezelsruggen. De langsgevels zijn voorzien van uitgemetselde sierranden ter hoogte van de aanzet van de trapgevels. De houten bakgoten rusten op uitgemetselde klossen. De rechtgesloten vensters onder segmentboogvormige ontlastingsbogen bevatten houten kruiskozijnen met onderluiken en naar binnen draaiende onderramen en vaste bovenramen, beide met roedenverdeling. Er zijn siersmeedijzeren muurankers verwerkt.
De symmetrisch ingedeelde voorgevel (noordzijde) heeft in het midden de entree en aan weerszijden een venster. De entree bestaat uit een hardstenen stoep, en een rechtgesloten opgeklampte deur met roedenverdeeld bovenlicht onder ontlastingsboog. De symmetrische, twee assen tellende linkerzijgevel (zijde Straatweg, oostzijde) bevat twee vensters in de eerste bouwlaag en in de top één venster.
Waardering
Het pand is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als in hoofdvorm herkenbaar voorbeeld van een dienstwoning uit 1911/12 in de stijl van de Neo-Hollandse Renaissance alsmede als functioneel onderdeel van de buitenplaats Nijenrode. De dienstwoning heeft stedenbouwkundige waarde vanwege de beeldbepalende ligging aan de Straatweg en de Vecht alsmede vanwege de visuele en ruimtelijk-functionele relatie met de andere onderdelen van het complex en de situering binnen de parkaanleg van de buitenplaats.

SERVANTS' QUARTERS, as part of the country estate Nijenrode.
The country estate has its origins in a 13th-century castle. Important extensions and restorations took place notably in the 17th century under Johan I Ortt, who also commissioned the laying out of a formal garden. From 1907 the country estate was owned by Amsterdam coffee merchant Michiel Onnes. He had the castle restored under the direction of architect E.G. Description
The servants' quarters from 1911/12 in the style of Neo-Dutch Renaissance is situated in the south of the park, near the southern entrance. It stands with the roof ridge perpendicular to the Straatweg. The partly cellaraged residential building of one storey is built in brick from a rectangular ground plan. The gabled roof is covered with Dutch tiles. The end gables are executed as stepped gables with masoned steps with hog's backs. The longitudinal facades are provided with masoned decorative strips at the height of the base of the stepped gables. The wooden gutters rest on masoned corbels. The round-closed windows under segmental arched relieving arches contain wooden cross windows with shutters and inward-opening lower sashes and fixed upper sashes, both with glazing bars. Ornamental wrought-iron wall anchors are incorporated.
The symmetrically arranged front facade (north side) has the entrance in the centre and on either side a window. The entrance consists of a stone step, and a round-closed clamped door with glazing bars and fanlight under relieving arch. The symmetrical, two-axis left-side facade (side of Straatweg, east side) contains two windows on the first storey and at the top one window.
Valuation
The building is of general interest on account of its cultural and architectural-historical value as a clearly recognisable example of servants' quarters from 1911/12 in the style of Neo-Dutch Renaissance and also as a functional component of the country estate Nijenrode. The servants' quarters has urban planning value on account of its image-determining location on the Straatweg and the Vecht as well as on account of the visual and spatial-functional relationship with the other components of the complex and its situation within the park layout of the country estate.
