Omschrijving
Inleiding.

Description
Introduction.
The FARMHOUSE of the long-gabled type from around 1880 in Traditional-craft style is located outside the built-up area, in the valley of the Dommel, between the settlement centres of Sint-Oedenrode and Olland. The farmhouse is built parallel to the street and stands with its north gable at the street side.
Description.
The single-storey farmhouse under half-hipped roof is built on an elongated ground plan and constructed of hand-formed bricks. The roof is partly covered with thatch and the roof edge with red Romanesque tiles. The roof edge at the street gable features a dentil moulding, consisting of five brick courses. The rear gable likewise has a dentil moulding, of three brick courses. Wall anchors at the height of the roof edge are found in both the long sides and the gables. The left section of the street gable has a plastered plinth, which runs as far as the first barn door. The western side gable was rebuilt in 1990 and the same applies to the western roof section.
The front door, which provides access to the dwelling house, is located in the left section of the street gable and has a two-light fanlight. It is flanked by a pair of six-light sash windows. In the middle gable section there is a similar door, which provides access to the forecowshed, and a pair of fixed, concrete four-light windows. The latter were added at a later date. In both the middle and right gable sections a double wooden barn door has been installed under an arched wooden beam. The eastern side gable is provided with a pair of fixed six-light sash windows.
On the first floor, a pair of small four-light windows have been installed and to the left of the centre a loading hatch. The western side gable has no window openings. The rear gable has a pair of windows that were installed at a later date and a door with a two-light fanlight. As in the front gable, two double barn doors are placed here under an arched wooden beam. The rear gable features a small square brick extension for the privy, which is accessed from the inside; this was added in the late 1940s, in replacement of the original privy which was located in the outbuilding (with stalls and barn) but was severely damaged in the Second World War and disappeared during reconstruction. It consists of a wooden seat section with opening, which is connected to the cesspit.
The interior layout is unchanged and consists of a residential section on the east side, a cowshed section in the middle and a barn section on the west side. The front door provides direct access to the hearth, which is laid with grey tiles of approximately 20 x 20 cm, made of something that appears to be the precursor of cement tiles. These tiles lie in a sand bed and are very brittle. As a result, most tiles have broken over time. The original chimney with baking oven is located in the western wall and can be reached via a small door in the boarded-up wall. In the wall and to the right of the baking oven, a bed alcove has been installed. Viewed from the hearth, the bed alcove is to the right of the chimney and the baking oven to the left. The door of the baking oven is beneath the chimney, behind the boarded-up wall. The central room provides access to a front and back room and to the kitchen, which is located at the rear. From the kitchen, access can be gained to the upstairs room and the cellar below it. The upstairs room provides access to the attic floor. Its layout is unchanged. The cowshed in the middle section has a ceiling of unworked beams and planks. The ceiling is supported by a wooden beam and a concrete column. The cowshed has cow stalls and three pig pens. The cowshed was originally almost certainly a pit-barn. The concrete slurry shed was made later, presumably in the 1920s or 1930s. The pig pens are of even later date, presumably from the 1950s. The cowshed is separated from the barn section by a thick wall. The hay loft above the cowshed is in open connection with the barn section, which has no loft.
The roof truss structure retains the original trusses, with the exception of the western section, which was renewed in 1990.
Valuation.
The farmhouse of the long-gabled type is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a representative of the simple long-gabled farmhouse from the late nineteenth century, which was characteristic of the region. It is significant for the history of agricultural and domestic culture because of its original layout. It is significant for building history because of the materials used and as an example of the transition phase in farmhouse construction to the construction with beam-bearing walls. The object is an authentic and in the rural context rare example of the type in question.
