Inleiding
Op de R.K. begraafplaats van Ravenstein gesitueerd, ongedateerd GRAFKRUIS (ca. 1900) van de familie T. Ouwens - J. Verhoeven.
Omschrijving
Op het opengewerkte gietijzeren grafkruis met florale motieven, gesteld op een hardstenen basementje, staat een afbeelding van Maria. In het kruis is ajour het Maria-monogram gegoten.
Waardering
Het object is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de stijl en als voorbeeld van een gietijzeren grafkruis. Het heeft als onderdeel van een op de oude vestinggronden van het stadje gelegen begraafplaats ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van een groter geheel dat cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedenbouwkundig van belang is. Description
On the open-work cast-iron funerary cross with floral motifs, placed on a hardstone base, is an image of Mary. In the cross the Marian monogram is cast in open-work.
Valuation
The object is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic burial culture. It has architectural-historical value because of the style and as an example of a cast-iron funerary cross. As part of a cemetery located on the old fortification grounds of the town, it has ensemble value as part of a larger whole that is of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban-planning importance. It has been preserved intact.
