Inleiding
Naast de calvariegroep staat op de R.K. begraafplaats het neoclassisistische GRAFMONUMENT van pastoor J. van de Poel uit omstreeks 1876. Het grafteken is, mèt het eigenlijke graf, omstreeks 1985 enkele meters verplaatst.
Beschrijving Het betreft een circa 1.20 meter hoge hardstenen stèle met sokkel en dekplaat. Op de stèle de inscriptie: "Bid voor de ziel van zaliger / den weleerwaarden heer / Joannes van de Poel / geb. te Kerkdriel / 17 novbr. 1797 / priester gewijd te Munster / 19 maart 1829 / pastoor te Hoofdplaat / prov.
Zeeland 18 april 1832 / doet afstand / van zijne pastoreele benoeming / 20 april 1857 / overl. te Ravenstein voorzien / met de H.H. Sacramenten / 19 october 1876". Het opstaande kruis van het monument ontbreekt.
Waardering
Het object is van algemeen belang. Beside the calvary group stands on the R.C. cemetery a neoclassical FUNERARY MONUMENT of vicar J. van de Poel from around 1876. The grave marker, along with the actual grave, was moved a few metres around 1985.
Description This is a hardstone stele approximately 1.20 metres high with base and top plate. On the stele the inscription: "Pray for the soul of the late / the reverend Mr. / Joannes van de Poel / born in Kerkdriel / 17 November 1797 / ordained priest in Munster / 19 March 1829 / vicar at Hoofdplaat / province Zeeland / 18 April 1832 / renounces / his vicariat position / 20 April 1857 / died at Ravenstein provided / with the Holy Sacraments / 19 October 1876". The upright cross of the monument is missing.
Valuation
The object is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic burial culture.
