Inleiding
Het neo-gotische PIJLERHEK MET POORT, dat de R.K. begraafplaats scheidt van de Molensingel, bestaat uit een negental circa twee meter hoge bakstenen pijlers met kunst- en hardstenen basementen en dekplaten.
Omschrijving
Elke pijler heeft aan de zijde van de Molensingel een kruisvormige nis. Tussen de hekpijlers staat een deels smeedijzeren, deels gietijzeren pijlpuntenhekwerk, dat voor een deel in oude vorm vernieuwd is. Ter hoogte van het middenpad van de begraafplaats ligt het hekwerk iets terug van de straat. Hier staan twee identieke bakstenen hekpijlers, doch nu bekroond met siervazen en met hardstenen basement en dekplaat. De hoge bakstenen toegangspoort bestaat uit twee ca. vier meter hoge, overhoeks geplaatste, bakstenen pijlers, waartussen een bakstenen wimberg is geplaatst.
Twee hekpijlers schoren de poort en zijn met de poortpijlers verheeld. Op alle vier de hardstenen dekplaten is een gebeeldhouwde schedel geplaatst, rustend op gekruiste botten. Op de zandstenen sluitsteen in de rondboog van de wimberg is een vlammende gevleugelde zandloper afgebeeld. Het hekwerk van de poort is ten dele vernieuwd, eindigt in de vorm van een ezelsrugboog en is versierd met florale motieven. De poort wordt bekroond door een smeedijzeren kruis.
Waardering
Het object is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur. Het heeft als onderdeel van een op de oude vestinggronden van het stadje gelegen begraafplaats ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van een groter geheel dat cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedenbouwkundig van belang is. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

The neo-gothic PIER FENCE WITH GATE, which separates the R.C. burial ground from the Molensingel, consists of nine brick piers approximately two metres high with artificial and hardstone bases and caps.

Each pier has on the side of the Molensingel a cross-shaped niche. Between the fence piers stands a partly wrought-iron, partly cast-iron arrowhead fencing, part of which has been renewed in old form. At the level of the centre path of the burial ground the fencing is set slightly back from the street. Here stand two identical brick fence piers, but now crowned with ornamental vases and with hardstone base and cap. The tall brick access gate consists of two approximately four metres high, diagonally placed brick piers, between which a brick gable is placed.
Two fence piers buttress the gate and are bonded with the gate piers. On all four the hardstone caps a carved skull is placed, resting on crossed bones. On the sandstone keystones in the round arch of the gable an image of a flaming winged sandglass is depicted. The fencing of the gate is partly renewed, terminates in the form of a coping arch and is decorated with floral motifs. The gate is crowned by a wrought-iron cross.
Valuation
The object is of general significance. It has cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of a social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic burial culture. As part of a burial ground located on the old fortification grounds of the town it has ensemble values as part of a larger whole which is of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban-planning significance. It has been preserved intact.
