Inleiding
SMEDERIJ uit 1904, behorend bij het complex scheepswerf 'Nieuwboer'. De scheepswerf is ondergebracht in een voormalige visserswoning uit tweede helft 19de eeuw.
Omschrijving
Het pand ligt aan de westzijde van het werfterrein, met de voorgevel aan de Oude Schans. Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt één bouwlaag onder een met de nokrichting haaks op de Oude Schans gelegen mansardekap, gedekt met rode verbeterde Hollandse pannen De symmetrisch ingedeelde voor- of westgevel is een geknikte topgevel met een bepleisterde, zwartgeschilderde plint. Links zijn tegen de plint de sleuven van een schotbalkkering aangebracht. De gevel heeft in het midden een deelbare deur met bovenlicht, voorzien van een levensboom. Ter weerszijde bevindt zich een zesruits schuifraam met luiken. In de top is een luik dubbele deuren met vensters gezet. Het dakoverstek is voorzien van windveren en een makelaar.
De linkerzijgevel is gelegen tegen de zijgevel van de botterloods.
De rechterzijgevel bevat een klein venster en een tweetal schuifvensters.
In de achtergevel is een deur gezet die uitkomt op de aanbouw van de botterloods en daar als terras op het plat dak dient. De geknikte topgevel is voorzien van roodgeschilderde verticale houten delen, witgeschilderde windveren en een makelaar.
Het interieur herbergt de smederij met smidsvuur aan de noordzijde en een werkbank aan de zuidzijde. In de vloer is een oude molensteen opgenomen.
Waardering
Het object is van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde als herkenbaar voorbeeld van een smederij uit 1904. Van cultuurhistorische waarde als onderdeel van de scheepswerf. SMITHY from 1904, belonging to the 'Nieuwboer' shipyard complex. The shipyard is housed in a former fisherman's dwelling from the second half of the 19th century.
Description
The building is located on the west side of the shipyard site, with its front facade at the Oude Schans. The building is constructed on a rectangular ground plan and comprises one storey under a mansard roof with ridge direction perpendicular to the Oude Schans, covered with red improved Dutch tiles. The symmetrically arranged front or west gable is a stepped top gable with a plastered, black-painted plinth. On the left against the plinth the slots of a shutter bar fastening have been applied. The gable has in the centre a folding door with fanlight, fitted with a tree-of-life motif. On either side is a six-pane sash window with shutters. In the top a hatch with double doors and windows is set. The roof overhang is fitted with wind braces and a barge-board.
The left side gable is located against the side gable of the botter shed.
The right side gable contains a small window and two sash windows.
In the rear gable a door is set which opens onto the extension of the botter shed and serves there as a terrace on the flat roof. The stepped top gable is fitted with red-painted vertical timber elements, white-painted wind braces and a barge-board.
The interior houses the smithy with forge on the north side and a workbench on the south side. In the floor an old millstone has been incorporated.
