Inleiding.
Dubbel WINKELWOONHUIS, uit het laatste kwart van de negentiende eeuw, gelegen ten noorden van de neogotische parochiekerk Sint Petrus Banden, deel uitmakend van een samenhangende straatwand van het laat-negentiende-eeuwse Kerkplein, waarvan een deel van de bebouwing overigens tot de zeventiende eeuw kan teruggaan. Het hoekpand is met de zijgevel gelegen aan de pastoor van Rijckelstraat.
Omschrijving.
Eenlaags bakstenen winkelwoonhuis met stucornament, onder zadeldak met oud-Hollandse pannen gedekt. Het pand heeft een symmetrische opzet, hoewel de scheidingsmuur niet in het midden ligt, maar tussen de derde en vierde travee van de winkelpui. Het heeft een hardstenen plint en dorpellijst, waarboven verfijnd metselwerk, afgesloten door een geprofileerde kroonlijst op klossen met cassettenfries. De rechter zijgevel is een geknotte tuitgevel, afgesloten met een identieke forse lijst. Het linker winkelwoonhuis no 4 heeft twee getoogde T-ramen met vierruits onderramen, gevat in een gestucte omlijsting met oren en kuiven. De winkelpui bestaat uit een hardstenen plint, waarboven een dubbelraam met vergelijkbare T-vormige indeling, geflankeerd door links de met zes ruiten beglaasde winkeldeur en rechts de paneeldeur van het woonhuis no. 2. Deze openingen zijn gescheiden door gegroefde pilasters en hebben korfbogen en een op dubbele en enkele voluutconsoles gedragen lijst. Het woonhuis no 2 heeft twee T-ramen met lijst en in de zijgevel nog drie T-ramen en op de verdieping twee getoogde en van stucomlijsting voorziene zesruits ramen. Het zadeldak is bij no 4 rond 1985 voorzien van een reeks nieuwe tuimelramen. Aan de achterzijde heeft dit huis een haakse aanbouw met op de verdieping twee vierruits ramen.
Inwendig bezit het huis no. 4 onder meer een kamer met gepolychromeerd stucplafond, binnenluikjes en paneeldeuren.
Waardering.
Het pand is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als vertegenwoordiger van de bloei van Oisterwijk als woon- en toeristenplaats nabij Tilburg, als gevolg van de spoorverbinding. Het heeft architectonische waarde als voorbeeld van de wijze waarop Eclectische vormen ontleend aan grootstedelijke ontwikkelingen op het platteland werden toegepast. Het pand heeft ensemblewaarde als onderdeel van de deels beschermde dorpskern van Oisterwijk. Het is een gaaf en zeldzaam voorbeeld van de regionale variant van het Eclecticisme.

Double SHOP-HOUSE, from the last quarter of the nineteenth century, situated north of the Neo-Gothic parish church Sint Petrus Banden, forming part of a connected street facade of the late nineteenth-century Kerkplein, although part of the building can date back to the seventeenth century. The corner building is situated with its side gable on the pastoor van Rijckelstraat.
Description.
Single-storey brick shop-house with stucco ornament, under a gabled roof with old Dutch tiles. The building has a symmetrical layout, although the dividing wall is not in the middle, but between the third and fourth bay of the shop front. It has a sandstone plinth and threshold moulding, above which refined brickwork, finished with a profiled cornice on brackets with coffered frieze. The right side gable is a truncated spout gable, finished with an identical substantial moulding. The left shop-house no. 4 has two arched T-windows with four-light lower frames, set in a stuccoed surround with ears and cresting. The shop front consists of a sandstone plinth, above which a double window with comparable T-shaped division, flanked on the left by the six-light glazed shop door and on the right by the panelled door of the dwelling no. 2. These openings are separated by fluted pilasters and have basket arches and a moulding carried on double and single volute brackets. The dwelling no. 2 has two T-windows with moulding and in the side gable three more T-windows and on the upper storey two arched six-light windows with stucco surround. The gabled roof at no. 4 was fitted around 1985 with a series of new roof windows. At the rear this house has a right-angled extension with on the upper storey two four-light windows.
Internally the house no. 4 has amongst other features a room with polychrome stucco ceiling, internal shutters and panelled doors.
Valuation.
The building is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a representative of the flourishing of Oisterwijk as a residential and tourist destination near Tilburg, as a result of the railway connection. It has architectural value as an example of the way in which Eclectic forms derived from metropolitan developments were applied in the countryside. The building has ensemble value as part of the partly protected town centre of Oisterwijk. It is a well-preserved and rare example of the regional variant of Eclecticism.
