Omschrijving
St.Petrus'Banden, 1895-1897, P.J.H.Cuypers. Neogotisch kruisbasiliek, geinspireerd op vroeg-gotische vormen, met een plattegrond, die de traditionele oost-westas combineert met de centraalbouw. Koor en transept hebben veelhoekig gesloten apsiden. In de hoeken, die koor en schip maken met het transept zijn telkens twee diagonaal geplaatste veelhoekige kapellen gebouwd, waardoor de omtreklijn van de kerk een centraalbouw suggereert. Koor en schip tellen elk twee traveeën. Boven de kruising een zware vierkante toren met hoektorentjes en een achthoekige spits. Veelhoekige traptorens aan weerszijden van de voorgevel en tussen de kapellen oostelijk van het transept. Natuurstenen zuilen, venstertripletten in de lichtbeuk en kruisribgewelven. Belangrijk werk uit Cuypers'tweede periode; eindfase van een ontwikkeling in zijn ruimtelijke creaties. Tot de inventaris behoren: neogotische altaren, drie Vlaamse schilderijen, 19e eeuw, door Gustaaf Wappers, een preekstoel en een biechtstoel, beide plm 1850. Laatgotisch Mariabeeld.

Description
St. Petrus' Bands, 1895-1897, P.J.H. Cuypers. Neo-Gothic cross basilica, inspired by early Gothic forms, with a ground plan that combines the traditional east-west axis with the centralised building type. Choir and transept have polygonal closed apses. In the corners formed by the choir and nave with the transept, two diagonally placed polygonal chapels have been built each time, whereby the outline of the church suggests a centralised building. Choir and nave each have two bays. Above the crossing a heavy square tower with corner turrets and an octagonal spire. Polygonal staircase towers on either side of the front facade and between the chapels to the east of the transept. Ashlar columns, window triplets in the clerestory and cross-ribbed vaults. Important work from Cuypers' second period; final phase of a development in his spatial creations. The inventory includes: neo-Gothic altars, three Flemish paintings, 19th century, by Gustaaf Wappers, a pulpit and a confessional, both circa 1850. Late Gothic image of Mary.
