Inleiding
Op de zuidoostelijke binnenplaats van het fabriekcomplex bevindt zich op een grasveldje, gelegen tussen de voorgevel van het oude magazijn/kantoor en de Almystraat een GEDENKTEKEN, daterend uit 1941. Het werd door het personeel van de fabriek aangeboden ter gelegenheid van het 25-jarig bestaan. Het beeldhouwwerk, ontworpen in een stijl verwant aan het sociaal-realisme, is in de loop der jaren sterk verweerd.
Omschrijving
Het rechthoekige grasveldje wordt omzoomd door een lijst met een spiegelboogmotief. Centraal daarop een gebeeldhouwde bolsokkel waarboven een zeshoekige obelisk met om en om aan drie zijden gebeeldhouwde figuren, staand op drie wapenschilden. De figuren, met schort en op klompen, stellen leerlooiers voor, en dragen ieder als attribuut een looiwerktuig bij zich. De afbeeldingen op de wapenschilden verwijzen symbolisch naar Brabant, Amsterdam en het leerlooiersvak. Tussen de wapenschilden zijn koeienkoppen afgebeeld. Het geheel staat op een bolsokkel, voorstellende een wereldbol, met daarin de tekst: 'Ter gelegenheid van het 25-jarig bestaan der koninklijke lederfabriek Oisterwijk N.V. aangeboden door het personeel 27 october 1941'. Het tufstenen beeldhouwwerk is opgebouwd uit diverse afzonderlijke delen die later aan elkaar zijn gemetseld. De bolsokkel wordt omgeven door een lage heg.
Waardering
Het object is van algemeen belang omdat het cultuurhistorische waarden bezit. In economisch opzicht illustreert de voorstelling de stevige en vooraanstaande plaats die de Oisterwijkse leerfabriek zich in 25 jaar tijd in Europa heeft verworven. Introduction
On the south-eastern interior courtyard of the factory complex, on a grass plot located between the front facade of the old warehouse/office and the Almystraat is a MONUMENT, dating from 1941. It was presented by the factory staff on the occasion of the 25th anniversary. The sculpture, designed in a style related to social realism, has become heavily weathered over the years.
Description
The rectangular grass plot is bordered by a moulding with a mirror arch motif. Centrally on it a sculptured ball pedestal above which a hexagonal obelisk with sculptured figures on three sides alternating, standing on three coats of arms. The figures, with aprons and clogs, represent leather workers, and each carry a leather-working tool as an attribute. The images on the coats of arms refer symbolically to Brabant, Amsterdam and the leather-working trade. Between the coats of arms cow heads are depicted. The whole stands on a ball pedestal, representing a globe, with the text: 'On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Royal Leather Factory Oisterwijk N.V. presented by the staff 27 october 1941'. The tufa stone sculpture is built up from various separate parts which were subsequently mortared together. The ball pedestal is surrounded by a low hedge.
Valuation
