Inleiding
Op het R.K. kerkhof van de H. Clemens te Nuenen gelegen PASTOORSGRAF van Wilhelmus Johannes van Dongen, ca. 1895.
Omschrijving
Hardstenen tombe met op de dekplaat een op een hardstenen sokkel opgesteld marmeren kruis. Op de dekplaat een marmeren plaquette met de afbeelding van palmtakken, kelk en kruisen.
Langs de randen van de dekplaat zijn in laag-reliëf florale motieven aangebracht waarbinnen de inscriptie: "Hier rust de zeer eerwaarde heer / Wilhelmus Johannes van Dongen / geb. te Zevenbergen 16 april 1834 / overl. te Nuenen 14 maart 1895 / Gedurende 5 jaren en 6 maanden pastoor dezer parochie". Op de zuidelijke zijkant van de tombe zijn in laag-reliëf zandlopers afgebeeld. Op de voorzijde staat de naam van het atelier: "D.J. Hanique".
Waardering
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het pastoorsgraf. Description
Hardstone tomb with a marble cross mounted on a hardstone base placed on the cover slab. On the cover slab a marble plaque with an image of palm fronds, chalice and crosses.
Along the edges of the cover slab floral motifs in low relief are applied within which the inscription: "Here rests the very venerable / Wilhelmus Johannes van Dongen / born at Zevenbergen 16 April 1834 / died at Nuenen 14 March 1895 / For 5 years and 6 months vicar of this parish". On the southern side of the tomb hourglasses are depicted in low relief. On the front is the name of the workshop: "D.J. Hanique".
Valuation
The grave monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic grave culture, and is also significant for the typological development of the pastor's grave.
