Inleiding:
Op het achter de H. Clemens gelegen, niet als rijksmonument beschermde R.K. Kerkhof te Nuenen staat een CALVARIEGROEP in Neo-Gotische stijl uit omstreeks 1900.
Omschrijving
De drie witgeschilderde gietijzeren beelden staan op een omstreeks 1985 naar oorspronkelijk voorbeeld vernieuwde bakstenen onderbouw. Deze brede bakstenen onderbouw wordt aan de uiteinden geschoord door twee pijlers, waar op getrapte natuurstenen sokkel de ca. een meter hoge beelden van Maria en Johannes de evengelist zijn geplaatst. Centraal op de bakstenen muur staat het ca. 1.5 meter hoge kruisbeeld (identiek aan dat op het kerkhof van de St. Willibrordus te Deurne), waarvan het kruis van smeedijzer is vervaardigd.
Waardering:
De calvariegroep is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van de calvariegroep. Het heeft kunsthistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de fabrieksmatige produktie van religieuze beelden. The three whitewashed cast iron figures stand on a brick substructure renewed around 1985 according to the original example. This broad brick substructure is buttressed at the ends by two pillars, on which on a stepped natural stone base the approximately one metre high figures of Mary and John the Evangelist are placed. Centrally on the brick wall stands the approximately 1.5 metre high crucifix figure (identical to that on the churchyard of the St. Willibrordus at Deurne), of which the cross is made of wrought iron.
