The register's description

Inleiding

Introduction

On the eastern side of the Ginnekenweg stands, in the building line of the street frontage, but on the northern side bordering the forecourt of the Roman Catholic church, the former INSTITUTE Pius, consisting of a main building from 1871, with a mixture of Neo-Baroque and Neo-Classical style forms. The building has undergone hardly any changes to its exterior over the years.

Description

The block-shaped building has a rectangular floor plan, comprises two storeys and is covered by a hipped roof with improved Dutch tiles.

The facades are built in brick and provided with spandrels, a stone plinth and likewise stone sills and sill bands.

The street facade has seven window axes, is finished by a profiled wooden cornice with stuccoed frieze and has a stepped layout in plan, because the middle window axis of the three window axes wide central risalit projects an extra half brick. This central window axis is moreover crowned by a stepped constructed stepped gable with consoles and round light. Below it on the first floor an effigy with a polychromed image of St. Francis is placed, which, like the two flanking, round arch-shaped framed six-pane casement windows, is stuccoed framed. On the ground floor of the risalit in the outer window axes each a panel door with semicircular fanlight is placed, just as the eight-pane window situated between them is likewise round arch-shaped framed with stucco. The outer four window axes have on the ground floor and first floor each an eight-pane, respectively six-pane light glazed sash window.

The northern side facade is almost entirely blind, save for a six-pane sash window on the floor in the middle of the three round arch-terminated blind recesses. The recesses are provided at the top with a brick fork tracery.
