The register's description

Inleiding

Introduction

On the southern side of the Seeligsingel at no. 12-13 stands a double DWELLING HOUSE in eclectic style, dating from 1880-'81. The townhouse was built after a design by A. van Loon Boschart. The building stands in a closed facade wall with late nineteenth-century townhouses. The windows of Seeligsingel 13 have a partially modernised layout.

Description

The building has a roughly rectangular floor plan and comprises two storeys. It is covered by a hipped roof, laid with old-Dutch tiles. Against the roof slope on the street side stands a wooden dormer window, equipped with a zinc hipped roof. This dormer, which is executed with a loggia, crowns the central risalit.

The facades are built in brick. The street facade has a hard stone plinth and sill strings, as well as a stucco cornice string and similar birth and closing stones. The facade is finished with a heavy cornice with plastered frieze, provided with spandrels.

The street facade has nine window bays, of which the central one, as well as the third and seventh window bays are executed as half-brick risalits. On the corners the facade of the neighbouring buildings is separated by rusticated pilasters. In both outer window bays with risalits there is a panelled front door, accessible via two hard stone steps and equipped with a fanlight with leaded glass filling. Above both front doors is a balcony on artificial stone consoles, each equipped with a wrought-iron balcony rail and accessible via a casement panelled door with fanlight. All windows in the street facade are T-sash windows. The layout of the windows at no. 13 is partly simplified. In the central window bay on the ground floor is a door to the rear hallway. The risalit with Ionic capitals is crowned by a loggia in the form of a dormer window, equipped with a balustrade and pediment. No. 13 has a wooden conservatory at the rear.

The interior has largely retained its original layout and is provided with stucco ceilings, interior shutters and panelled doors.
