Inleiding
Het WOONHUIS in Eclectische stijl werd in 1877-'78 als een van de eerste panden langs de in 1877 gegraven Singelgracht gebouwd. Het pand staat aan de zuidelijke zijde van de Seeligsingel en is opgenomen in een rij met herenhuizen.
Het pand heeft sinds de bouw betrekkelijk weinig veranderingen ondergaan. De dakbedekking is vernieuwd.
Omschrijving
Het tweelaagse pand heeft een globaal rechthoekige plattegrond en wordt gedekt door een schilddak, belegd met betonnen sneldekpannen. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in baksteen; de voorgevel is gepleisterd en voorzien van schijnvoegen. In het stucwerk zijn verschillende velden met ornamenten aangebracht (guirlandes, rozetten). De plint, alsmede de dorpels, zijn uitgevoerd in hardsteen. De voorgevel telt vier vensterassen en is, op de plaatsing van de voordeur na, symmetrisch van opzet. Deze kussenpaneeldeur met gietijzeren deurrooster en bovenlicht in de derde vensteras, wordt door T-schuifvensters geflankeerd.
Boven de voordeur en het aangrenzende venster ter linkerzijde is een balkon over twee vensterassen uitgevoerd. Het rust op drie kunststenen consoles en heeft een smeedijzeren hekwerk.
Op de verdieping twee openslaande vleugeldeuren naar het balkon, geflankeerd door een T-schuifvenster.
In het interieur is onder meer de oorspronkelijke indeling met hal en kamer-en-suite bewaard gebleven; van belang zijn ook de resterende stucwerkplafonds, de schouwen en de paneeldeuren.
Waardering
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarden: het heeft belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de typologische ontwikkeling. Het object heeft architectuurhistorische waarden: het is van belang wegens het materiaalgebruik en de detaillering; het is van belang als typerend voorbeeld van de vormgeving van het Bredase woonhuis in de stadsuitleg van de late negentiende eeuw. The DWELLING HOUSE in Eclectic style was built in 1877–'78 as one of the first buildings along the Singelgracht dug in 1877. The building stands on the southern side of the Seeligsingel and is included in a row with mansions.
The building has undergone relatively little change since its construction. The roof covering has been renewed.
Description
The two-storey building has a roughly rectangular floor plan and is covered by a hipped roof, tiled with concrete rapid-cover tiles. The facades are built of brick; the front facade is plastered and provided with false joints. In the stucco various fields with ornaments have been applied (garlands, rosettes). The plinth, as well as the sills, are executed in hard stone. The front facade has four window bays and is, except for the placement of the front door, symmetrical in arrangement. This cushioned panelled door with cast-iron door grille and fanlight in the third window bay is flanked by T-sash windows.
Above the front door and the adjoining window to the left a balcony is executed over two window bays. It rests on three artificial stone consoles and has wrought-iron railwork.

In the interior the original arrangement with hall and adjoining rooms has been preserved; also of importance are the remaining stucco ceilings, the fireplaces and the panelled doors.
