Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
On the western side of the Mauritsstraat, included in a row consisting mainly of late nineteenth-century houses, stand the three TOWNHOUSES numbers 11-13-15, all dating from around 1885. The houses were built in the style of eclecticism. Various small, inconspicuous roof dormer windows are placed on the roof. The property at number 11 was provided with a new shop front around 1965.
Description
The broad and deep properties comprise two storeys and are covered by one hipped roof, provided with old Dutch tiles.
The front facades are, considered over the entire object, broadly symmetrically arranged. Each of the houses consists of four window axes, of which the middle two are framed by a half-brick projecting risalit with balcony.
The facades are built in brick and entirely stuccoed. The shop fronts are provided with sham joints. Horizontal articulation is achieved by string courses and stuccoed cornice, provided with consoles and horizontal stuccoed facade panels.
The front facades of each of the townhouses have broadly the same arrangement: the central risalit with two window axes, with on the ground floor a panel door and fanlight, next to which a sash window, and on the upper floor two doors with fanlight, under segmental arch, flanked both on ground floor and upper storey by a sash window. All windows on the upper floor are provided with a profiled, stuccoed surround with cornice with rolled ornament. Number 13 still retains the original T-sash windows. These are also preserved on the upper floor of number 11. The window arrangement of number 15 has been partly simplified. Numbers 13 and 15 still have the original balconies placed on worked stone consoles, with cast-iron railings.
In the interior of numbers 13 and 15 are notably important the marble fireplaces and the stuccoed ceilings, with inter alia floral motifs and cherub heads.
Valuation
The townhouses are of general interest. They have cultural-historical value as representatives of the urban expansion following the dismantling of the fortress; they are important as examples of the typological development of the townhouse in the late nineteenth century. They have ensemble values: they are important on account of the situation, connected with the expansion of the city; they form part of an intact street facade typical of this expansion. Integrity/recognisability: they are important in relation to the structural and visual integrity of the urban environment.
