Inleiding.
BOSWACHTERSHUIS uit 1905 op het landgoed "De Oranjebond" in Esbeek. Het ontwerp is van de Hilvarenbeekse architect A. Verhoeven. Het huis is gebouwd door de Oranjebond van Orde. Dit was een ontginningsmaatschappij die in 1893 in Utrecht werd opgericht. Als doelstelling had de bond: de werkgelegenheid en de trek naar het platteland te bevorderen, om zodoende een aantal misstanden, armoede etc. uit de weg te ruimen en zo de socialisten de wind uit de zeilen te nemen. In 1903 kocht de bond ruim 400 ha. op de Roovertse Heide. Men kreeg toestemming om te ontginnen, dit werk werd uitgevoerd door de Heidemaatschappij. Het landgoed ligt midden tussen landgoederen Gorp en Rovert en de Utrecht. Het huis lag oorspronkelijk aan de tramlijn naar België.
Het huis is gebouwd op de plaats van de afgebrande boerderij 't Zand. De oude bomen in de naaste omgeving van het huis wijzen hier nog naar. Oorspronkelijk had het een andere indeling, met onder andere een ossenstal, bergplaats voor gereedschappen en wagenhuis. De stal en wagenhuis zijn bij het woonhuis getrokken.
Omschrijving.
Het eenlaagse huis heeft een L-vormige plattegrond. Het heeft twee haaks op elkaar staande zadeldaken met overstek en houten windveren gedekt met muldenpannen. Het woonhuis met stal is lang 15.25, het woonhuis heeft een diepte van 9.15 en de stal van 8.50 meter. Tussen het oude woon- en bedrijfsgedeelte zit een sprong in de voorgevel.
Het opgaande werk bestaat uit handgevormde rode baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband, voorzien van een zwarte cementen plint. Boven het woongedeelte een gemetselde topgevel waarin een tegeltableau met de naam van de ontginningsmaatschappij "Oranjebond van Orde".
In het woongedeelte draai-vensters onder met luiken met acht- of tienruits bovenlichten. In het bedrijfsgedeelte kloostervensters met onderluiken en vierruits bovenlichten. De topgevel van het woonhuis is niet authentiek. Oorspronkelijk was hier een chalet-achtige bekroning met makelaar en windveren.
Waardering.
Het boswachtershuis is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van de landbouw in Nederland, in het bijzonder de grootschalige ontginning van woeste gronden in de 20ste eeuw en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de dienstwoning.
Architectuurhistorisch is het pand van belang vanwege de aan de landschappelijke omgeving aangepaste sobere ornamentiek. Het is belangrijk vanwege de gaafheid van het exterieur.

FORESTER'S HOUSE from 1905 on the estate "De Oranjebond" in Esbeek. The design is by Hilvarenbeek architect A. Verhoeven. The house was built by the Oranjebond van Orde. The single-storey house has an L-shaped ground plan. It has two gabled roofs at right angles to each other with overhang and wooden wind braces, covered with Dutch tiles. In the residential section casement windows below with shutters with eight- or ten-pane fanlights. In the business section cloister windows with lower shutters and four-pane fanlights. The stepped gable of the dwelling is not authentic. Originally there was a chalet-like crowning with moulding and wind braces.
Valuation.
The forester's house is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical importance as an example of the socio-economic development of agriculture in the Netherlands, in particular the large-scale reclamation of waste ground in the 20th century and as an example of the typological development of the tied house.
Architecturally the building is of importance for its restrained ornamentation adapted to the landscape setting. It is important for the integrity of its exterior.
