Inleiding
Zevenklassige SCHOOL, gebouwd naar ontwerp van J.W. Hanrath in 1929 in opdracht van de vereniging voor Christelijk Nationaal Onderwijs in Traditionalistische stijl. Noodlokalen die aan de achter- en zijkant van het gebouw zijn toegevoegd worden niet beschermd.
De school ligt aan de Galileistraat, op de hoek met de Groenewoudseweg in het stadsdeel Woensel.
Omschrijving
De hoofdmassa van het gebouw bestaat uit een tweelaagse bouwmassa op rechthoekige plattegrond onder een schilddak. Tegen de linkerzijkant van de voorgevel is een blokvormig, torenachtig element (drie lagen hoog) onder plat dak geplaatst, hierin bevindt zich de ingang in een trapsgewijs verdiepte rondboog. Erboven is het opschrift "Christelijk Nationale Schoolvereeniging" aangebracht. Het blok heeft een smalle opbouw met vlaggenmast. Het platte dak is voorzien van een rand keramische tegels.
Naast deze toren is een blokvormige bouwmassa onder plat dak geplaatst (de tweede bouwlaag is waarschijnlijk een latere toevoeging, in dezelfde stijl als de rest van het pand uitgevoerd). Daarachter, iets terug gelegen, strekt zich een tweelaagse bouwmassa met plat dak op rechthoekige plattegrond, evenwijdig aan de zijstraat uit. De achterzijde van het pand is van een tweelaagse uitbouw onder plat dak voorzien. Aan de rechterzijde van de voorgevel is een éénlaagse blokvormige aanbouw onder schilddak aanwezig.
Het pand is uitgevoerd in gele baksteen, de daken zijn voorzien van een overstek en gedekt met verbeterde Hollandse pannen.
De voorgevel heeft grote samengestelde ramen (elk raam correspondeert met één klaslokaal). Op de begane grond worden deze horizontaal doorsneden door een grindbetonnen band, verticaal zijn bakstenen stijlen aangebracht.
Boven de band zijn de ramen met kleine houten roeden onderverdeeld, eronder zijn metalen kozijnen aangebracht. Ook het blok naast de ingangspartij is van grote ramen voorzien. De overige ramen in zijgevel en achtergevel zijn breed en laag. Alle ramen op de verdieping zijn voorzien van een brede middenstijl en kalf en hebben een kleine roedenverdeling.
Zowel aan de voor- als aan de achterzijde van het pand bevindt zich een betegelde plaats.
Waardering
De school is van algemeen belang. Het pand heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van een culturele en geestelijke ontwikkeling, namelijk de ontwikkeling van het onderwijs in het interbellum. Description
The main mass of the building consists of a two-storey building mass on a rectangular ground plan under a hipped roof. Against the left side of the front facade is a blocky, tower-like element (three storeys high) under a flat roof, in which the entrance is situated in a step-wise recessed round arch. Above it the inscription "Christian National School Association" is placed. The block has a narrow structure with a flagpole. The flat roof is provided with a border of ceramic tiles.
Beside this tower is a blocky building mass placed under a flat roof (the second storey is probably a later addition, executed in the same style as the rest of the building). Behind it, slightly set back, extends a two-storey building mass with flat roof on a rectangular ground plan, parallel to the side street. The rear of the building is provided with a two-storey extension under a flat roof. On the right side of the front facade is a single-storey blocky extension under a hipped roof.
The building is executed in yellow brick, the roofs are provided with an overhang and covered with improved Dutch tiles.
The front facade has large composite windows (each window corresponds with one classroom). On the ground floor these are horizontally intersected by a gravel concrete band, vertical brick piers are placed.
Above the band the windows are subdivided with small wooden glazing bars, below them metal frames are placed. The block beside the entrance section is also provided with large windows. The remaining windows on the side gable and rear gable are broad and low. All windows on the upper storey are provided with a broad central mullion and calf and have small glazing bars.
Both at the front and rear of the building there is a tiled space.

The school is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical significance as an example of a cultural and spiritual development, namely the development of education in the interwar period.
