Inleiding
Veemgebouw, gebouwd in 1942 naar ontwerp van het Ingenieursbureau Philips, in het ontwerp zijn expressionistische elementen verwerkt. Het pand ligt aan de westrand van het terrein tegen de Beukenlaan, in het verlengde van een reeks betonnen magazijnen.
Omschrijving
Tienlaags pand op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder een plat dak. De schuine zijde aan de kant van de Beukenlaan heeft een trapsgewijs verloop. De gevel heeft een aantal vlakken met afgeronde hoeken.
De begane grond is terugliggend geplaatst en kent een hoge verdiepingshoogte en heeft aan de straatzijde bakstenen perrons met trappen. Boven de begane grond steekt een betonnen luifel uit. De verdiepingen daarboven zijn lager en aan de bovenrand voorzien van lage, brede ramen met stalen kozijnen en een kleine roedenverdeling. Het pand kent plaatselijk een opbouw van twee lagen. Het geheel is uitgevoerd in beton waarbij de gevel grotendeels met baksteen is bekleed. Hierin zijn betonnen cordons verwerkt. De constructie bestaat uit vierkante kolommen met afgeschuinde paddestoelkoppen.

Waardering
Het veemgebouw is van algemeen belang. Het geheel heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaaleconomische ontwikkeling van de nijverheid, in het bijzonder de stichting van de op nationaal niveau van belang zijnde Philipsfabrieken en als visualisatie van de typologische ontwikkeling van de grootschalige hoogbouw voor de industrie. Het heeft innovatieve waarde vanwege de grootschalige en technisch uitgewerkte toepassing van gewapend betonconstructies.
