Omschrijving
Inleiding
Uitgevoerd in neo-gotische stijl.

Description
Introduction
ROSARY WAY, consisting of fifteen chapels along the edge of the park with sculpture by J. Niklaus-Bochaert from 1906-1910. Executed in neo-Gothic style.
The chapels are approximately two metres high and half a metre wide. The sculpted figures are approximately 70 centimetres high.
Description
Each chapel has a square ground plan and is executed in brick with a dentil course beneath a gabled roof covered with slate and half-hipped end. The roof is provided with an overhang and wind brace with scalloped carved edge. The apex is crowned by a cross finial.
The chapel has a slightly projecting plinth and is open at the front. A large pointed arch niche with wooden vault contains a cement stone panel on which a sculpture with religious representation is placed. The lower half of the niche is enclosed by a wrought-iron grille.
The representations depict the so-called mysteries of the rosary.
These are divided into five joyful, five sorrowful and an equal number of glorious mysteries. The series begins with the joyful mysteries: the angel Gabriel brings the glad tidings to Mary (Annunciation), Mary visits her cousin Elisabeth (Visitation), Jesus is born in a stable in Bethlehem, Jesus is presented in the temple and finally Jesus is found in the temple. Subsequently the sorrowful mysteries are depicted: Jesus prays in mortal anguish to his heavenly Father, Jesus is scourged, Jesus is crowned with thorns, Jesus carries his cross to Mount Calvary and lastly the death of Jesus on the cross. The glorious mysteries are the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, the Ascension of Jesus, the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles (Pentecost), Mary is taken up into heaven and Mary is crowned in heaven as the last in the series.
Evaluation
The rosary way is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical significance as an expression of spiritual development and as an exemplar of Marian devotion in North Brabant. Moreover, the object has typological significance as part of a processional park from the early twentieth century. The park has architectural-historical values as an example of a park layout with monuments in various styles. It has ensemble values by virtue of its location and coherence with the church building and its relationship with the development of Handel as a pilgrimage site and monastic settlement.
