Inleiding
Voormalig KANTOOR "Gebouw 41" van de munitiefabriek, onderdeel van het complex Hembrugterrein-Artillerie Inrichtingen Hembrug, gerealiseerd in de jaren 1895 (fundering), 1896 (afwerking) en 1898-1900 (voorzieningen), en opgetrokken in neo-renaissancistische bouwtrant. Het kantoor was oorspronkelijk bestemd tot 'bureelen der officieren, werkzaam bij de draaierij van projectielen en buizen, de gieterij en de vuurwerkerij, alsmede tot scheikundig laboratorium en tot twee woningen voor gehuwden'. Het object behoort tot de oudste bewaard gebleven bebouwing van de fabriek en bevindt zich aan de zuidelijke terreingrens, waar de kantoren en administratie waren geconcentreerd. Met het vergelijkbare maar iets grotere gebouw 12 ('Bureelgebouw van de werkplaatsen voor draagbare wapenen en de patroonfabriek') dat een aantal jaren terug gesloopt werd vormde dit object het hoofdkantoor van de fabriek. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd in het gebouw onder meer een theaterzaal ingericht. Thans is het gebouw in gebruik als kantine. In oorsprong was het kantoor inwendig voorzien van tegelvloeren, lambriseringen, behangsels op doek en van houten of stucwerkplafonds. Deze afwerking is zo goed als verdwenen, evenals de oorspronkelijke tien dakkapellen op het dak dat met zink bekleed was. De ramen zijn vernieuwd.
Omschrijving
Kantoorgebouw, gebouwd op rechthoekige plattegrond en bestaande uit twee bouwlagen onder scherp geknikt mansardedak. Het object ligt oost-west gericht met de voorgevel langs het Noordzeekanaal. Het gebouw is gefundeerd op een houten paalroosterwerk en gemetselde voet. Het werd met spouwmuren opgetrokken in grauwe baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband met toepassing van zandsteen in de geveltop, hardsteen in de plint, kunststeen voor bandwerk en sluitstenen, en rode en gele baksteen in het metselmozaïek van de vensterbogen.
De voorgevel (zuid) bestaat uit een risalerende middenpartij met aan weerszijden drie vensterassen. De middenpartij van drie assen is voorzien van gekoppelde rondboogvensters en een centrale ingang. De middenpartij is met een kapverdieping tot nokhoogte doorgezet. Dit deel wordt bekroond door een balustrade en een zandstenen opzetstuk in de vorm van een door klauwstukken geflankeerd Rijkswapen waarop een fronton. Boven de ingang bevindt zich een jaartalsteen 'anno 1898'. De overige vensters in het gebouw hebben rondbogen op de begane grond en strekken op de verdieping.
De zijgevels (west en oost) hebben vier vensterassen en de achtergevel heeft er elf. De gevels hebben een geprofileerde houten kroonlijst.

Former OFFICE "Building 41" of the munitions factory, component of the Hembrugterrein complex - Artillery Installations Hembrug, realised in the years 1895 (foundation), 1896 (finishing) and 1898-1900 (facilities), and erected in neo-Renaissance architectural style. The office was originally intended for 'offices of the officers, employed at the turning shop for projectiles and tubes, the foundry and the pyrotechnics workshop, as well as for a chemical laboratory and for two dwellings for married couples'. The object belongs to the oldest preserved buildings of the factory and is located at the southern site boundary, where the offices and administration were concentrated. With the comparable but somewhat larger building 12 ('Office building of the workshops for portable weapons and the ammunition factory') which was demolished a number of years ago, this object formed the main office of the factory. After the Second World War, a theatre hall was fitted out in the building, among other things. At present the building is in use as a canteen. Originally the office was fitted internally with tile floors, wainscoting, wallpaper on canvas and wooden or stucco ceilings. This finishing has virtually disappeared, as have the original ten roof dormers on the roof which was clad with zinc. The windows have been renewed.
Description
Office building, built on a rectangular plan and consisting of two storeys under sharply angled mansard roof. The object is oriented east-west with the front facade along the Noordzeekanaal. The building is founded on a timber pile grid and mortared base. It was erected with cavity walls in grey brick laid in alternating bond with the application of sandstone in the gable top, hardstone in the plinth, artificial stone for band work and keystones, and red and yellow brick in the brick mosaic of the window arches.
The front facade (south) consists of a projecting central section with three window bays on either side. The central section of three bays is provided with coupled round-arched windows and a central entrance. The central section is carried through with a roof storey to ridge height. This section is crowned by a balustrade and a sandstone ornamental piece in the form of a Royal Coat of Arms flanked by claw brackets with a pediment above. Above the entrance is a date stone 'anno 1898'. The remaining windows in the building have round arches on the ground floor and run on the upper storey.
The side facades (west and east) have four window bays and the rear facade has eleven. The facades have a profiled wooden cornice.
Valuation
The former office building "Building 41" is of general importance due to its cultural and architectural historical value as an example of a management building from the end of the 19th century, also of importance as a historical-functional main component of the Hembrugterrein complex, built in the first phase of the factory.
