Inleiding
Voormalig MAGAZIJN "Gebouw 43", onderdeel van het complex Hembrugterrein - Artillerie Inrichtingen Hembrug, gerealiseerd in de jaren 1895 (fundering), 1896 (opbouw) en 1897 (verdiepingsbalklaag). Het magazijn (inwendig ca. 30x24x7,6 m) was oorspronkelijk bestemd tot 'oplegging van materialen voor de draaierij van projectielen en buizen, gieterij en vuurwerkerij'. Dit object behoort tot de oudste bewaard gebleven bebouwing van de fabriek en bevindt zich centraal op het fabrieksterrein als onderdeel van de projectielenfabriek. Thans is het gebouw in gebruik bij de technische dienst.
Omschrijving
Magazijn, gebouwd op rechthoekige plattegrond en bestaande uit twee bouwlagen onder twee evenwijdige zadeldaken met de nokken noord-zuid gericht.
Het gebouw is gefundeerd op een houten paalroosterwerk en gemetselde voet. Het werd met spouwmuren opgetrokken in grauwe baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband met toepassing van hardsteen voor de bovenrand van de plint en de vensterdorpels, zandsteen voor kapitelen en sierlijsten en -blokken en gele en rode baksteen in de strekken boven de vensters. De oorspronkelijke houten twaalfruits-schuifvensters en vensters met openvallend bovenraam zijn behouden, evenals de houten deuren die uitgevoerd zijn als getoogde dubbele deuren met diagonaal beschoten panelen en ijzeren hang- en sluitwerk. De hal is een vierbeuk over zeven traveeën met inwendig een constructie van driemaal zes gietijzeren kolommen, ijzeren onderslagbalk en daarop ijzeren liggers met schoorbalken en houten vloeren. De kap bestaat uit zes ijzeren polonceauspanten met houten gordingen en beschot.
De noord- en zuidgevel bestaan uit acht vensterassen met om de twee assen een muurdam. De dubbele puntgevel is voorzien van vier vierruits rondvensters, klimmende boogfriezen en een overstekend dak met makelaar. De west- en oostgevel bestaan uit acht assen en hebben elk twee grote toegangsdeuren. Langs de dakrand bevindt zich een gootlijst op kleine houten schoren.

Het voormalige magazijn "Gebouw 43" is van algemeen belang wegens cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een bedrijfsopslaggebouw uit het einde van de 19de eeuw, en tevens van belang als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het complex Hembrugterrein, gebouwd in de eerste fase van de fabriek.

Former WAREHOUSE "Building 43", component of the Hembrugterrein complex - Hembrug Artillery Installations, realised in the years 1895 (foundations), 1896 (construction) and 1897 (floor joists). The warehouse (internally approx. 30x24x7.6 m) was originally intended for 'storage of materials for the lathe shop for projectiles and tubes, foundry and pyrotechnics'. This object belongs to the oldest preserved structures of the factory and is located centrally on the factory site as part of the projectile factory. Currently the building is in use by the technical service.
Description
Warehouse, built on a rectangular plan and consisting of two storeys under two parallel gabled roofs with ridges oriented north-south.
The building is founded on a timber pile-grillage and brick footing. It was constructed with cavity walls in grey brick laid in Flemish bond with the application of hardstone for the upper edge of the plinth and window sills, sandstone for capitals and decorative mouldings and blocks, and yellow and red brick in the courses above the windows. The original timber twelve-light sash windows and windows with opening fanlight have been retained, as have the timber doors executed as arched double doors with diagonally boarded panels and iron hinges and fasteners. The hall is a four-aisle structure over seven bays with an internal structure of three times six cast-iron columns, iron corbel and cast-iron beams with bracing struts and timber floors. The roof consists of six iron polonceau trusses with timber purlins and boarding.
The north and south facades consist of eight window axes with a wall pier between every two axes. The double pointed gable is provided with four four-light round windows, ascending arch friezes and an overhanging roof with modillions. The west and east facades consist of eight axes and each have two large entrance doors. Along the roof edge runs a gutter moulding on small timber brackets.
Valuation
The former warehouse "Building 43" is of general importance due to its cultural and architectural-historical value as an example of an industrial storage building from the end of the 19th century, and is also of importance as a historical-functional component of the Hembrugterrein complex, built in the first phase of the factory.
