Inleiding
Ten noordoosten van het kruispunt van de spoorlijn Eindhoven - Venlo met de Stationsstraat staat, nabij het NS-station Deurne, HOTEL-CAFE Van Baars, met hardstenen STOEP. Het pand dateert uit omstreeks 1900. Aanvankelijk was er ook Van Baars' Kolen- en Bouwmateriaalhandel gevestigd.
Omschrijving
Het eenlaags gebouw heeft een globaal rechthoekige plattegrond en wordt gedekt door een mansardedak met kruispannen, waarop drie schoorstenen. De gevels zijn gemetseld in baksteen en voorzien van een gepleisterde plint en een witgeschilderd, gepleisterd fries. De gevels worden afgesloten door een geprofileerde gootlijst. De straatgevel aan de zijde van de Stationsstraat heeft een a-symmetrische indeling met vier zesruits schuifvensters. Op de hoek met de Spoorlaan is in een afgeschuinde hoekgevel een vernieuwde voordeur met bovenlicht onder gesneden luifel geplaatst. In de eindgevel aan de Spoorlaan zijn op de gegane grond en de verdieping elk twee zesruits schuifvensters. Tegen deze gevel staat een omstreeks 1985 aangebrachte houten terrasluifel. Voor de voordeur van het café ligt een oude hardstenen stoep, met in laagreliëf het oude gemeentewapen van Deurne. Deze stoep, die binnen de bescherming valt, is afkomstig van het oude raadhuis van Deurne, dat kort na 1896 werd gesloopt. Inwendig zijn karakteristieke elementen als de gelagkamer en de oude kapconstructie bewaard gebleven.
Waardering
Hotel-café Van Baars met hardstenen stoep (afkomstig van het oude raadhuis van Deurne) vertegenwoordigt algemeen belang op basis van:

Northeast of the intersection of the railway line Eindhoven - Venlo with the Stationsstraat, near NS station Deurne, stands HOTEL-CAFÉ Van Baars, with sandstone STEP. The property dates from around 1900. Initially Van Baars' Coal and Building Materials Trading was also established there.
Description
The single-storey building has a roughly rectangular floor plan and is covered by a mansard roof with crossed pan tiles, on which three chimneys. The facades are built in brick and provided with a plastered plinth and a whitewashed, plastered frieze. The facades are finished with a moulded gutter moulding. The street facade on the Stationsstraat side has an asymmetrical layout with four six-pane sash windows. On the corner with the Spoorlaan, in a chamfered corner facade, a renewed front door with fanlight under a cut canopy is placed. In the end facade on the Spoorlaan, on the ground floor and first floor each two six-pane sash windows. Against this facade stands a wooden terrace canopy installed around 1985. In front of the café's front door lies an old sandstone step, with in bas-relief the old municipal coat of arms of Deurne. This step, which falls within the protection, originates from the old town hall of Deurne, which was demolished shortly after 1896. Internally characteristic elements such as the bar room and the old roof truss structure have been preserved.
