Inleiding
De voormalige TABAKSSCHUUR, gelegen parallel aan de Geldersestraat, dateert uit omstreeks 1870. Het gebouw verkeert grotendeels in oorspronkelijke staat. Omstreeks 1880, na het verdwijnen van de tabaksteelt, werd de schuur omgebouwd tot twee boerderijen, en legde men zich toe op de tuinbouw en fruitteelt.
Nog vóór de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd de indeling van de langsgevels op enkele plaatsen gewijzigd. Omstreeks 1960 zijn ter plaatse van de woonhuizen enkele vensters vergroot.
Omschrijving
Het zeer langgerekte gebouw is op korte afstand van de straat gelegen. Het is eenlaags en wordt gedekt door een fors zadeldak, gedekt met oud-Hollandse pannen. Het gebouw is opgetrokken in handvorm baksteen. De muren zijn met smeedijzeren ankers verbonden met het zeer grote gebint, dat nagenoeg geheel uit ijzer is samengesteld. Enkele latere reparaties zijn ook in ijzer uitgevoerd. De kap bestaat uit een hangschoorwerk, dat deels rust op het muurwerk, deels op een rij, in de lengte-as van het gebouw geplaatste liggers. In de topgevels van de eindgevels van de voormalige tabaksschuur zijn nog de oorspronkelijke rondboognissen met windgaten te zien. Deze zijn echter aan de oostelijke zijde dichtgezet, terwijl die aan de westelijke zijde in 1998 van nieuwe vensters zijn voorzien. In de globaal symmetrisch ingedeelde kopgevels treft men oud Hollandse klapraampjes aan, die dateren van vóór de verbouwing tot boerderij.
Met name aan de westelijke zijde is deze gevel nog redelijk in tact. Omstreeks 1880 zijn twee woonhuizen ingebouwd, terwijl het middendeel van de schuur door de plaatsing van een muur werd opgesplitst tot twee bedrijfsruimten. Op de kapverdieping werden tegen de eindgevels kleine slaapkamers gerealiseerd. Na 1960 zijn, met name in de westelijke gevel en in het oostelijk deel van de zuidelijke gevel, verschillende vensters uitgebroken.
Tevens zijn omstreeks 1967 de rond 1900 ingebouwde kelders met opkamers geamoveerd. Het bedrijfsdeel heeft ook op de begane grond nog grotendeels de oude indeling. De in 1967 nog aanwezige paarden- en varkensstallen zijn echter verdwenen.
Waardering
De voormalige tabaksschuur is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van de tabaksnijverheid in de Peel en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de tabaksschuur. Het is architectuurhistorisch van belang vanwege de stijl en de ornamentiek en als voorbeeld van de toegepaste combinatie van bouwelementen. Het heeft ensemblewaarden in samenhang met de te beschermen nederzetting Helenaveen. Het is tevens van belang vanwege de gaafheid van het exterieur. Het is zeldzaam wegens opzet en constructie.

Introduction
The former TOBACCO SHED, situated parallel to the Geldersestraat, dates from around 1870. The building is largely in its original state. Around 1880, after the disappearance of tobacco cultivation, the shed was converted into two farmhouses, and they turned to horticulture and fruit cultivation.

Description
The very elongated building is situated at a short distance from the street. It is single-storey and is covered by a substantial gabled roof, covered with old-Dutch tiles. The building is constructed in hand-formed brick. The walls are connected with wrought-iron anchors to the very large roof truss, which consists almost entirely of iron. Some later repairs are also carried out in iron. The roof structure consists of a tie-beam truss, which partly rests on the masonry, partly on a row of beams placed along the longitudinal axis of the building. In the gables of the end facades of the former tobacco shed the original round-arched niches with wind openings can still be seen. These are, however, closed off on the eastern side, while those on the western side were provided with new windows in 1998. In the roughly symmetrically arranged end facades one finds old Dutch casement windows, which date from before the conversion to a farmhouse.
Particularly on the western side this facade is still reasonably intact. Around 1880 two dwellings were built in, while the middle section of the shed was divided into two business premises by the placement of a wall. On the roof floor small bedrooms were realised against the end facades. After 1960, various windows were enlarged, particularly in the western facade and in the eastern part of the southern facade.
Also around 1967 the cellars with upper rooms built in around 1900 were removed. The business section also still largely retains the old layout on the ground floor. The horse and pig stalls that were still present in 1967 have, however, disappeared.
Valuation
The former tobacco shed is of general importance. The building has cultural historical importance as an example of the socio-economic development of the tobacco industry in the Peel and as an example of the typological development of the tobacco shed. It is architecturally important because of the style and ornamentation and as an example of the applied combination of building elements. It has ensemble values in connection with the protected settlement of Helenaveen. It is furthermore important because of the integrity of its exterior.
