Omschrijving
Inleiding
Gbr. Glas In de Speyckermandt Bouvy Dordt 1913'.

Description
Introduction
VILLA "Klein Groenesteijn" is located a short distance from and on the south side of the Utrechtseweg and forms part of the villa development along this road. The plot is bounded by a fence at the front, on which the name Klein Groenesteijn has been affixed to one of the brick corner pillars.
On the east side of the property there is a driveway.
The villa was designed in 1912 on behalf of Mr. A. van Traa by Amersfoort architect M.J. Klijnstra. The architectural style is the circa 1800 style, combined with forms that were applied in the Netherlands in the second half of the seventeenth century. Classicistic motifs predominate. The design of the bay windows and chimneys points to English influences as does the arrangement of the central hall in the interior.
In the years after the Second World War an internal renovation was carried out to the design of M.J. Klijnstra. Rooms at the front were separated off to serve as a notary's office. After several minor alterations, at the beginning of the 1990s the last residential rooms were converted into office space to the design of W. Kramer.
Description
The main body of villa "Klein Groenesteijn" has in its principal form a square ground plan with two storeys and a truncated, projecting hipped roof, covered with bituminous shingles. On each of the four corners there is a brick chimney. In the middle of the east facade is the main entrance.
On the west facade of the main body a large bay window has been built with a wooden balustrade to separate it from the balcony above. The facades are constructed of machine-made brick with moulded corner pilasters. The windows on the upper floor are generally wooden cross windows with leaded glass fanlights and have shutters and are relieved by stretches with natural stone setting and closing stones. The two bay windows and conservatory are fitted with composite windows.
The street-facing symmetrical east facade is subdivided into three bays, of which the middle one, containing the entrance unit, projects slightly. The panel door, accessed by three steps, is flanked by narrow sidelights with glazing bars. Windows and door are placed between four pilasters on a base, which carry a main cornice, on which a balustraded balcony is situated. On the upper floor a window unit with a Serliana motif has been installed, with a natural stone closing stone in the arch. Double French doors in the middle give access to the balcony. Here too there are four pilasters. Two garlands are located just below the moulded drip moulding. Above the drip moulding a mezzanine, in which four windows with glazing bars are located, framed by four pilasters and a drip moulding. On the ground floor there is a bay window with hipped roof in the left bay, in the right bay a cross window with leaded glass fanlight, shutters, and a stretch with setting and closing stones. On the first floor there are identical cross windows in both the left and right bays.
To the left of the main body there is a small rectangular extension of later date. This falls outside the protection.
The symmetrical west facade with conservatory is divided into four bays, of which the middle two project slightly and are crowned with a pediment. In the pediment there is a round window. In front of the risalit a large five-sided conservatory has been built. Tuscan columns on the corner carry a balustraded balcony. Between the columns are single-light windows with leaded glass fanlight and in the middle a double French door, accessible from outside via three brick steps. On the first floor, in the central risalit, there are two single-light doors with leaded glass fanlights and venetian blinds. Left and right, cross windows are installed on both the ground floor and the upper floor. Two roof dormers with cross windows, pediment and sloping roof.
The symmetrical north facade faces the Utrechtseweg. The facade has three bays. On the ground floor there is a three-sided bay window with flat roof and shutters in the left and right bay. The middle bay has a small two-light window, above which a commemorative stone has been attached. On the first floor three cross windows. The three roof dormers are of the same type as the others.
The south facade has three bays, with the later extension located in front of the right bay. The left bay has double doors with a three-light fanlight. The doors are of later date. In the middle bay there are two smaller rectangular windows, with the window in the first storey being of later date. The left and right bays have larger cross windows. All three windows in the second storey are fitted with louvre shutters.
The interior has a number of original elements, such as the centrally situated hall with the two-storey high staircase unit and the draught vestibule. These spaces are provided with marble floors, moulded wooden doors and wood panelling. Tiles have been installed here, which may possibly be seventeenth-century. In the stair vestibule on the first storey there is an arched leaded glass window depicting the church at Katwijk. Two rectangular windows flank this window, each depicting a VOC ship. In the left window is inscribed: 'Toon Berg inv et ex'. In the right window the following text is legible: 'Ateliers voor Gesch. Gbr. Glas In de Speyckermandt Bouvy Dordt 1913'.
