Omschrijving

Description

The COACH HOUSE, designed in the neorennaissance style, is situated approximately 75 meters to the northeast of the country house. The building, with its front facade facing south, is largely surrounded by paving. Only around the eastern part of the building is there a garden, corresponding with the residential section.

The property, divided into three building sections, has an almost rectangular floor plan, with one storey covered by hipped roofs with grey Dutch tiles. An original roof dormer with volutes is located above the east facade. Four recent roof dormers have been added above the north and south facades. The central section is provided with a mezzanine. On the front, rear and right sides there are central projections. The building consists of the residence on the east side, the coach house in the middle and the stables on the west side. The small residence consists of a kitchen, located at the front, a corridor in the middle and on the rear side one room. A narrow staircase leads from this room to the attic, which is nowadays divided into small bedrooms. The width of the central projection spans the entire width of the building with the coach house located here. This space is high and is spanned by a wooden beam structure. Above it is a large attic space. The coach house has two large double doors on the front and rear sides. Next to the coach house is the horse stable. The windows, which are provided with inward-tilting fanlights and glazing bars, have a natural stone sill and brick segmental arch. The windows of the residence are provided with moulded shutters. The large double wooden doors of the coach house are also moulded. Natural stone keystones are set in the segmental arches above the doors.

The almost symmetrical front facade (south side) has four bays. The two central bays are located in the central projection and are relatively wide: they contain the double, tall doors of the coach house. The central projection is marked by rusticated corner pilasters. The moulded cornice of the central projection is interrupted in the middle by a shutter. The roof dormer, which frames the shutter, is provided with a gently sloping gabled roof. The shutter is placed on a cordon moulding with above it an alternation of plastered blocks and projecting bricks. This moulding marks the division between the first storey and the mezzanine.

A narrow, plastered spandrel is located between the two door sections with directly above it a medallion. A horse head is attached to it. In the mezzanine there are two rectangular, plastered spandrels.

The bays on the left and right are lower and have windows in the middle, above a double string course. The window in the right bay is provided with shutters.

The rear facade (north side) is plain and unplastered. The facade is placed on a natural stone base and is finished with a moulded gutter moulding. The rear facade has the same layout as the front facade. The central projection has one double tall door in the right bay. In the left bay is a window with shutters. Diagonally next to this window is a tilting shutter, which screens an access to the cellar. Directly above the door and window is a rectangular opening, which is provided with two shutters. In the facade of the right bay, two small windows are placed at the height of the fanlight of the larger windows.

The symmetrical left side facade is blind and consists of a natural stone base with above it a brick wall.

The symmetrical right side facade has three bays, of which the central one is located in a projection. This projection is provided with a gabled roof, which has an overhang and is decorated with wood carving. In the middle of this plastered projection is the entrance to the residence. Above the moulded rectangular door is an arched fanlight with vertical glazing bars. The central projection is flanked by windows with shutters.

The interior is almost in its original state, with the residence located above the cellar. In the kitchen the original fireplace is still present. Kitchen, corridor and room are tiled. In the stable there is a built-up pump with a natural stone watering trough and a number of cast-iron pillars, which are placed in the middle of the coach house.

Valuation

The property, belonging to the Schothorst estate, is of general interest because of its architectural historical value as a fine example of a coach house, designed in the neorennaissance style. The building is of great ensemble value in relation to the other components of the estate designed by one architect.
