Inleiding
Beide BRUGWACHTERSHUISJES dateren uit 1931-'32 en maken deel uit van Julianasluis die verder bestaat uit een schutsluis (a), een bedieningsgebouw (met Garenskantoor) (b), twee vernieuwde stalen ophaalbruggen (die buiten rijksbescherming vallen) en twee bedieningsgebouwtjes (d) voor de rioolschuiven. De brugwachtershuisjes zijn gebouwd in de stijl van de Interbellum-architetuur
Omschrijving
Bij beide ophaalbruggen staan identieke brugwachtershuisjes die zijn geplaatst op een onderbouw. Dit platform is ruim een meter hoger dan de kades langs de sluiskolk en op gelijk niveau met het wegdek. Betonnen stoeptegels en natuurstenen randen.
Het meerhoekige pand is opgetrokken uit donkerrode baksteen en heeft een meter hoge donkerbruin gemetseld trasraam met ingesnoerde blokken. Mansardekap met leien en twee pyronen. De kap is afgezet met een uitkragende houten daklijst.
De kopgevel (oost) heeft afgeschuinde hoeken. Over de gehele breedte een horizontaal uitkijkvenster met stalen kozijnen dat in de zijgevels doorloopt en dat uitzicht biedt over de gehele sluiskolk. Natuurstenen bovendorpels en onderdorpels van grestegels. In de zijgevel aan de brugzijde, is direkt naast de raampartij een houten deur geplaatst. Deze gevelzijde heeft een granieten plint.
In beide zijgevels vijf glasbetonnen ramen. Aan de achterste kopgevel (west) een dubbele houten deur. Onder de houten dakrand een siermetselwerkrand.
Waardering
De brugwachtershuisjes hebben ensemblewaarde vanwege de samenhang met de overige objecten van het sluizencomplex.

Both BRIDGE-KEEPER'S COTTAGES date from 1931-'32 and form part of Julianasluis which further consists of a lock chamber (a), an operating building (with Garens office) (b), two renewed steel lifting bridges (which fall outside national monument protection) and two operating buildings (d) for the sewer sluices. The bridge-keeper's cottages were built in the style of Interbellum architecture
Description
At both lifting bridges stand identical bridge-keeper's cottages which are placed on a substructure. This platform is just over one metre higher than the quays along the lock chamber and at the same level as the road surface. Concrete paving tiles and natural stone edges.
The polygonal building is built from dark red brick and has a one-metre-high dark brown mortared tuff frame with grooved blocks. Mansard roof with slate and two roof lights. The roof is finished with a projecting wooden cornice.
The end gable (east) has bevelled corners. Across the full width a horizontal observation window with steel frames that continues in the side elevations and that provides a view over the entire lock chamber. Natural stone upper and lower window sills of gres tiles. In the side gable on the bridge side, directly next to the window section, a wooden door is placed. This gable side has a granite plinth.
In both side gables five glass concrete windows. On the rear end gable (west) a double wooden door. Under the wooden roof edge an ornamental brickwork band.
