Inleiding
WOONHUIS met kenmerken van de Chaletstijl en een strakke vorm van Art Nouveau, gebouwd in 1913 voor beeldhouwer P.M. Smits onder architectuur van Henri Smits (Haarlem).
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand groot tweelaags woonhuis onder zadeldak met overstek. Gevels van baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband met ornamentiek. Beide topgevels met vakwerk in hout, baksteen en pleisterwerk. Aan weerskanten van de voordeur in het kleine portiek twee leeuwenkoppen in natuursteen.
Vensters met glas-in-lood bovenlichten. In de zijgevels blindvensters, waarin op de begane grond twee kloostervensters zitten. Op de zolder- verdieping de oorspronkelijke vensters met roedenverdeling. De vensters van de benedenverdieping zijn aan de straatkant voorzien van onderluiken. Aan de achterkant van het huis een serre met tuindeuren waarboven een balkon uit de bouwtijd. Gaaf interieur met uitzondering van de woonkamer. Hier zijn de schuifdeuren en schoorsteenmantels uitgebroken. In gang marmeren kerkplavuizen. Jugendstil tegelwerk in toilet en serre. Naast het moderne woonhuis achter Stationsstraat 31 ligt de voormalige werkplaats van de beeldhouwer, deze behoort niet tot het monument.
