Inleiding.
De KERK van de H. Hubertus werd gebouwd in 1865 in Neogotische stijl naar een ontwerp van architect P. Soffers. In 1929 onderging het gebouw een grote verbouwing van het interieur. Naar ontwerp van het architectenbureau van de gebroeders Oomen (Oosterhout) werd het neo-gotische gepleisterde driebeukige interieur vervangen door een bakstenen éénbeukige kerkruimte met brede spitsbogen in schoon metselwerk, in sobere uitvoering.
Omschrijving.
Rooms Katholieke KERK met toren en een smaller koor. De toren heeft een vierkante grondslag en telt drie geledingen, bekroond door een zeskantige spits. Links en rechts van de toren zijn in 1929 éénlaagse aanbouwen, deels onder plat dak geplaatst. De toren is voorzien van overhoekse steunberen. Op de begane grond heeft de toren een hoog portaal met spitsboogomlijsting. Het boogveld is voorzien van traceringen. Erboven bevindt zich een rond raam. De onderste geleding van de toren heeft lisenen en een klaverbladboogfries. In de geleding daarboven zijn lisenen en een smal spitsboograam, gevuld met glas-in-lood aangebracht. Daarboven bevinden zich de galmgaten en een wijzerplaat in top, geflankeerd door hoekpinakels. Het schip telt vijf traveeën en is voorzien van steunberen waartussen per travee een spitsboograam gevuld met glas-in-lood is aangebracht. Tegen de zijgevel zijn natuurstenen plaquettes geplaatst. Tegen de pijlers is een verzameling houten heiligenbeelden uit verschillende stijlperiodes geplaatst. Communiebanken en preekstoel zijn voorzien van neo-gotisch houtsnijwerk. De orgelgalerij heeft bakstenen pijlers en een houten opbouw. Lancetvensters zijn gevuld met glas-in-lood. De glas-in-lood ramen zijn van de hand van J. Willemen, een kunstenaar uit Dongen en werden tussen 1962 en 1966 vervaardigd.
Waardering.
De kerk is onderdeel van een complex van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van de ontwikkeling van het katholicisme, in het bijzonder de stichting van kerkdorpen in de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw en is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de katholieke kerkcomplexen. To the left and right of the tower, single-storey annexes were placed in 1929, partly under flat roof. The tower is provided with diagonal buttresses. On the ground floor the tower has a tall portal with pointed arch moulding. The arch field is provided with tracery. Above it is a round window. The lowest storey of the tower has pilasters and a trefoil arch frieze. In the storey above are pilasters and a narrow pointed arch window, filled with stained glass. Above these are the bell openings and a clock face at the top, flanked by corner pinnacles. The nave comprises five bays and is provided with buttresses between which a pointed arch window filled with stained glass is placed per bay. Against the side elevation are placed natural stone plaques. These memorial stones are provided with inscriptions. One reads: "SECOND STONE LAID/ BY A.A.H. V.D. NOORT/ ANNO 1868". At the rear the church has single-storey rectangular annexes from 1929 under flat roof with narrow herringbone arch windows, filled with cathedral glass. The choir is rectangular on the ground floor, at first-floor level it assumes a five-sided form. The choir is provided with a pitched roof, covered with slate and fitted with a zinc cricket. The rear elevation is blank. In the interior major renovation has taken place. Now shallow pointed arch vaults span the entire width of the nave. The rear wall is straight. The vaults are provided with brick arches in a contrasting colour. At the top of each vault is a round opening, covered with a grate. Against the pillars is placed a collection of wooden sacred images from different style periods. Communion rails and pulpit are provided with neo-gothic woodcarving. The organ gallery has brick pillars and a wooden superstructure. Lancet windows are filled with stained glass. The stained glass windows are by the hand of J. Willemen, an artist from Dongen and were manufactured between 1962 and 1966.
Valuation.
The church is part of a complex of general importance. It has cultural-historical importance as an expression of the development of Catholicism, in particular the foundation of church villages in the second half of the nineteenth century, and is also of importance as an example of the typological development of Catholic church complexes.
