Inleiding.
De Neo-Gotische FONTEIN werd vervaardigd in 1914 door de kunstsmid J. Dingemans. Tesamen met een bloemperk kwam de fontein te staan op de driehoek van het Pastoor Joorenplein. In 1922 werd de fontein op verzoek van de parochie St. Joseph, verplaatst naar de huidige plaats in de as van de Burgemeester Stulemeijerlaan tegenover de Steenbergsestraat. Op de plaats van de fontein kwam een Heilig Hartbeeld. De oorspronkelijke terrazzowerk piedestal van de fontein werd in 1975 vervangen door een hardstenen exemplaar.
Omschrijving.
In een rond hardstenen bekken staat de vierkante piedestal waarop een opengewerkte Neo-gotische bekroning van smeedijzer. Op de rand van het bekken zitten acht waterspuwende metalen kikkers. De hardstenen piedestal is voorzien van halfronde waterbekkens aan de zijden. De rijzige smeedijzeren opbouw heeft een vierkante omtrek en is bekroond door een opengewerkte kap met krullen, lelies en bloemmotieven. De opbouw bestaat uit rechte en gedraaide ijzeren staven. Een holle buis in het midden zorgt voor de watervoorziening naar de fabeldieren op de hoekpunten beneden, in het midden en bovenin tussen decoratieve tracering. De waterspuwers hebben de vorm van gevleugelde draken, honde- en vogelkopjes. Het smeedwerk hieromheen is verder verlevendigd door gedraaide uiteinden, cirkels en roosmotieven.
Waardering.
De fontein is van algemeen belang. The Neo-Gothic FOUNTAIN was made in 1914 by the master smith J. Dingemans. Together with a flower bed, the fountain was placed on the triangle of Pastoor Joorenplein.
