Inleiding.
Het WOONHUIS is gebouwd in Eclectische stijl rond 1880 en vormt een markant op de hoek gesitueerd onderdeel van de in diezelfde tijd tot stand gekomen gevelwand aan een uitvalsweg van de binnenstad. Het vormt één blok met nummer 3, dat niet in aanmerking komt voor Rijksbescherming. Het pand met in de loop van de tijd vereenvoudigde deuren en ramen is heden in gebruik als horecagelegenheid met bovenwoning.
Omschrijving.
Het tweelaagse pand telt drie traveeën aan de zijde van de Antwerpsestraat en heeft een afgeschuinde hoek van één vensteras. De gevels zijn gepleisterd. Op het schilddak liggen zwarte opnieuw verbeterde hollandse dakpannen. De plint en de vensterdorpels zijn van hardsteen. Onder de vensterdorpels zijn sierlijsten aangebracht. De getoogde schuifvensters op de begane grond en etage zijn voorzien van een stucomlijsting met oreillons en kuiven. Deze decoratie omgeeft ook de paneeldeur op de hoek en de deur van de bovenwoning geheel rechts. Het fries is voorzien van voluutconsoles bij de deurtraveeën met een tandlijst onder de geprofileerde kroonlijst. De linker zijgevel aan de Kloosterstraat heeft op de begane grond drie getoogde ongedecoreerde schuifvensters. De rest van de gevel is blind.
Waardering.
Het pand is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, met name als onderdeel van de stadsuitleg van de late negentiende eeuw. The RESIDENTIAL HOUSE was built in Eclectic style around 1880 and forms a striking corner component of the facade wall created at the same time on an exit road from the city centre.
