Inleiding.

Introduction.

The PARSONAGE no. 105 was built in 1911 according to a design by architect Jacques van Groenendael and stands next to the church at number 107. Both interior and exterior have remained completely intact. The interior shows influences of Jugendstil.

Description.

The two-storey parsonage has a rectangular floor plan with parallel extension at the rear and a composite roof with slates in Maas-bond. The facades are built of machine-made reddish-brown brickwork with ornamental brickwork in yellow stone. The front facade counts five bays. The left two are located in a slightly projecting section under transverse gabled roof, the remaining three under flat roof with roof panel. The tall T-windows have a fanlight in small glazing bars. The two T-windows on the first floor are shorter; the small attic window has the same design with on both sides of the alternating lintel a broad yellow brick ornamental band. The gutter moulding projects and is crowned by a circle. Directly next to this building section is the shallow segmental-arch porch with fielded-panel door in which a wrought-iron ornamental grille. The fanlight has small glazing bars. Next to it again two T-windows. Above here a frieze with yellow brick decoration, the wooden gutter moulding is supported by stepped-forward ornamental brickwork. In the roof panel above are three roof dormers with roof windows and small glazing bars in the fanlight; the gabled rooflets are finished with wood and are crowned by a circular form.

The rear and side facades are simpler in character but with the same window forms. On the right side is a space with a heavily barred window, the sacristy which forms the access to the church. The interior of the parsonage is traditional in layout: it is determined by the broad central corridor running through the whole and the side corridor on the right with staircase. The panelled doors are provided with an ornamental surround with painting in the original soft tints with blue and gold. In various places in the corridors on the ground floor and above are porcelain round-arch wash basins, provided with decoration. The corridor is provided with stylised floral stencilled painting. At the round-arch niche on the right serving as a cloak room is a depiction made of two leaping deer. Both left and right of the entrance is a connecting room, provided with sliding doors with corner cupboards, with panels and small panes in the upper panels. These rooms all possess the original marble fireplaces, in a variety of colours and styles. In the front room on the left is a large ornately constructed oak cabinet with document panels which was originally probably positioned in the sacristy. All rooms on the ground floor, with the exception of the kitchen and the extension, are provided with coffered ceilings. The coffers are provided with polychrome painting with flower posies and fruit. The large connecting room on the right of the entrance has on the garden side a granito floor with blocked border pattern. Two opening doors provide access to the garden. The side corridor provides access to the sacristy. Next to the side corridor is under a round arch the broad staircase, lit by a leaded-glass window. Also on the first floor are large rooms, in location corresponding with those on the ground floor. Here too are various ornamental fireplaces. After the stairs on the ground floor the kitchen can be entered, with the original kitchen fireplace and cupboards, everything also provided with carving and colour schemes as in 1911. On the front the parsonage grounds are closed off by a cast and wrought-iron ornamental fence with spires and buttons, dating from the time of construction.

Valuation.

The parsonage is of general interest. The building has cultural-historical significance as an example of spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholicism in the late nineteenth century and the revival of existing devotions. It is also of architectural-historical significance because of its place in the oeuvre of the architect. The complex has ensemble value because of its situation, connected with the development of the church village and because of the manner of layout. The complex is of particular significance for the appearance of the village and because of the high quality of the construction in historical-spatial relationship to the road structure. The building has a high degree of integrity, in particular in the interior.
