Omschrijving
Inleiding.

Description
Introduction.
At the junction of the important roads Nieuwstraat, Kerkstraat and Raadhuisstraat in the centre of Gilze, this DWELLING HOUSE was built in 1910 in Neo-Renaissance forms. Nowadays it is also used as an office.
Description.
The entirely detached symmetrical building has a roughly triangular ground plan, with the point directed towards the junction being slightly recessed. The southern side facade runs parallel to the Bisschop de Vetplein, the northwestern one follows the paving at the side of the Mollebos park. At the front of the building there is paving and a small square shared with the municipal auxiliary secretariat. The building is constructed of two storeys under a flat roof. The facades are of machine-made brick, laid in stretcher bond with cut and dressed joints. The building also has a rendered plinth. For decoration, horizontally rendered speckled layers have been applied. All windows are closed almost square and have lintels decorated with geometric motifs in artificial stone. The window sills are of hardstone. Most windows still have the original T-windows. The facade on the square side has two rendered corner pilasters of colossal order, a strikingly richly decorated balcony and moulded architectural trim with a peaked gable, three obelisks and two spherical forged corner finials. In particular, the striking consoles of the balcony, richly worked with a male and female head, acanthus leaves and diamond heads, deserve attention. The balcony furthermore has a forged railing with geometric motifs. In the arch above the balcony door the year 1910 is carved and painted. Around the facade on the square side is a shallow garden with an iron railing with round arches. In the southern facade there is still the original panelled door with geometric carving in a small porch. The rear facade has a concrete balcony with a sober iron railing. In the extension of the northwestern facade there are two building sections on a rectangular ground plan; a slightly recessed three-storey section with slightly arched windows with six-pane sashes under a flat roof and a single-storey extension under a gabled roof covered with renewed red tiles, with amongst others a square-closed and a semicircular window in the front facade. Originally there was a wooden hoist door in this facade. Internally there are still various ceilings with original painted stucco ornaments present; among others in the front room at the square section and in the section now used as office/library.
