Inleiding
Vrijstaande GARAGE van het voormalige P.G.E.M. onderstation te Arnhem en thans in gebruik als rijwielstalling bij de gemeentelijke Dienst Milieu en Openbare Werken. Het object is in 1939 gebouwd naar ontwerp van ingenieur H. Fels in Nieuwe Haagse School-stijl. De garage bevindt zich op de hoek van de Van Oldenbarneveldtstraat en de Broekstraat en is met de voorgevel georiënteerd naar het binnenterrein. De hoofdingang tot het complex bevindt zich aan de Van Oldenbarneveldtstraat tussen de garage en het voormalige magazijngebouw.
Omschrijving
Voormalige GARAGE van één bouwlaag en plat dak op rechthoekig grondplan. De gevels van gele en rode baksteen zijn gemetseld in Noorsverband met verdiepte voegen. Alle vensteropeningen zijn voorzien van stalen ramen en kozijnen. De lekdorpels zijn van basaltlava. Het dakoverstek, de lateien, de consoles en de luifel zijn van beton.
De zes traveeën brede VOORGEVEL bezit vijf grote ijzeren kanteldeuren onder een doorgaande luifel met getrapte consoles, en in de rechter travee een ingang en een rechthoekig meerruits raam.
De LINKER ZIJGEVEL heeft vijf gekoppelde vijfruits ramen.
De RECHTER ZIJGEVEL (aan de Van Oldenbarneveldtstraat) heeft in het midden twee ingehakte ingangen en daarboven vier gekoppelde vijfruits ramen. De hoek met de achtergevel is afgeschuind.
De zes traveeën brede ACHTERGEVEL (aan de Broekstraat) bezit een horizontale vensterstrook met per travee drie gekoppelde vijfruits ramen.
Het INTERIEUR van deze langshal bezit een constructie van beton. Deze bestaat uit zeven balken in de lengterichting met geprofileerde dakplaten ertussen en zeven vakwerkliggers in de dwarsrichting.

Detached GARAGE of the former P.G.E.M. substation in Arnhem and now in use as a bicycle storage facility with the municipal Department of Environment and Public Works. The building was constructed in 1939 according to a design by engineer H. Fels in New Hague School style. Description
Former GARAGE of one storey with a flat roof on a rectangular ground plan. The facades of yellow and red brick are laid in running bond with recessed joints. All window openings are fitted with steel frames and sashes. The drip moulds are of basalt lava. The roof overhang, the lintels, the consoles and the canopy are of concrete.
The FRONT FACADE six bays wide features five large iron tilting doors beneath a continuous canopy with stepped consoles, and in the right bay an entrance and a rectangular multi-pane window.
The LEFT SIDE FACADE has five coupled five-pane windows.
The RIGHT SIDE FACADE (on Van Oldenbarneveldtstraat) has in the centre two recessed entrances and above them four coupled five-pane windows. The corner with the rear facade is chamfered.
The REAR FACADE six bays wide (on Broekstraat) features a horizontal window strip with three coupled five-pane windows per bay.
The INTERIOR of this longitudinal hall has a concrete structure. This consists of seven beams in the longitudinal direction with profiled roof panels between them and seven truss girders in the transverse direction.
